Your weekly Bean-Sized Bulletin is here. This is your corner for all things English in cyberspace.
• Our conversation group Cafecito & Conversation is coming (very) soon. Be sure to check our event calendar.
• Check out our previous post for all books (brand new and pre-loved) for sale. Don’t forget that all profits will go to help those wounded in the protests. We’ve already donated S/150!
• The Critical Sounds course is coming back for the second time because many people missed out the first time. Limited spots will be available. It’s time to level up your English pronunciation skills.
They /ðeɪ/ was Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year for 2019. Talk about back to the basics!
They is a personal pronoun used to refer to two or more people or things. You probably knew this already—but, did you know that it’s also been used as a gender-neutral singular pronoun for over 600 years
They is used in English by non-binary individuals, people who have a gender identity that can't be categorized as (exclusively) male or female. It is actually quite common now to see a person’s personal pronouns in Twitter bios, email signatures, and LinkedIn profiles.
This week’s question is ‘have you ever had a teacher who really changed your outlook?’
As educators we believe question prompts can challenge learners, encouraging them to develop and explore a topic in more depth.
Read the prompt again and think about which person came to mind. Does this person know the impact they had on you? Is it more than one person? Feel free to share your answer(s), we’re here for you.
