65: Core audience

Hello.

If this is LEGO’s real reason for not pursuing the Firefly Serenity set (http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/12902) then it’s a bit of an odd one:
“all LEGO products, regardless of age target, must be content-appropriate for this core audience. With this in mind we have decided that as cool as the Serenity model is, the Firefly TV show and Serenity film contain content that is not appropriate for our core target audience of children ages 6-11. While we know this news will disappoint those who supported the project, we will not be producing this as a LEGO product.”

(What about Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, or LoTR? LEGO licences lots of other PG-13 movies that are definitely no more age appropriate for 6-11 year olds than Firefly or Serenity. Unless I’m missing something, it seems strangely inconsistent. I think Cuusoo, previously a rather nifty way for LEGO to involve and include adult fans of LEGO, might be just about to become much more negative, or a lot more quiet, and quite possibly both.)

NY Mag: ‘The Maturation of the Billionaire Boy-Man’
“‘Move fast and break things’ has continued to drive the company’s evolution. Instead of extensively focus-grouping new features, Facebook just rolls them out. Then it listens to users’ screams and makes modifications as appropriate. This technique has produced a lot of duds. It has led, on many occasions, to Zuckerberg having to apologize to his users. It has also produced some of the features that, in the minds of users, today are Facebook—such as News Feed. What the critics miss when they blast Facebook for “mistakes” is that the process is deliberate. And it works.”
