Responsibility doesn’t disappear
An examination of how responsibility quietly shifts when ownership is never named.
Most plans don’t fall apart because people didn’t care.
They fall apart because nobody ever clearly had it.
Everybody assumed someone else was holding the ball.
BOOKED
This is the part where everybody sounds sure.
We’ll handle it. It’s covered. That’s how we usually do it.
Nobody asks for a name because nobody wants to slow the room down.
Responsibility stays light. Floating just enough to keep things moving.
BUSY
Then the day tightens.
A decision needs to be made fast and there’s that quiet pause where ownership should be.
So a coordinator makes the call and stays late fixing it, because nobody else had clear authority.
The adjustment works. The room keeps moving.
Those extra hours don’t get treated like a problem.
They just belong to her.
BUILT DIFFERENT
This is where leadership either tells the truth or lets it pass as normal.
Built different does not mean praising people for stepping up after the fact.
It means noticing where responsibility floated and making sure it does not float again.
One owner. Written down. Early enough that pressure does not get to decide for you.
If you do not anchor responsibility up front, it will land later.
And it will land on whoever is closest.
