A Slow Way Back to Yourself.
Booked, Busy and Built Different — Issue No. 2
Lyric of the Week: 🎶 “Take your time, young man.” Surface
- Reflection and Theme Overview
There are seasons when life asks you to run. And there are seasons when life asks you to return.
December carries a quiet truth. A gentle reminder that I do not have to match the speed of this world to move with purpose.
This week felt like a slow walk back to myself. Not the self who performs strength. Not the self who pushes past pain. Not the self who outruns her own breath.
The real self. The grounded self. The body led self. The self who remembers how to move without abandoning herself.
I used to think softness made me weak. I used to think slowing down meant falling behind. The truth is kinder than that.
Softness is intelligence. Slowness is clarity. Honest pacing is protection.
Your body knows the pace it can hold. When you honor that pace, everything inside you begins to unclench.
December is not asking you to push. December is asking you to breathe.
💼 BOOKED
Booked used to mean overscheduled. Now it means aligned.
It means being rooted in a rhythm that does not break me. It means making decisions from steadiness instead of stress. It means letting my nervous system lead instead of the world’s urgency.
I spent years moving faster than my body could carry. Years treating exhaustion like a badge and urgency like a compliment. None of that held me.
What held me was learning to listen.
Your breath will tell you the truth before your calendar ever does. Your shoulders will tighten long before your spirit gives out. Your body whispers long before any breakdown arrives.
Booked is not about showing up everywhere. It is about showing up whole.
This week reminded me that the path back to alignment is often quiet. And soft. And slow.
A slow way back to yourself.
⚖️ BUSY
Busy without boundaries is a burden. Busy with honesty is a rhythm.
Folks love to say they are busy like it is a personality trait. But most of our overwhelm does not come from workload. It comes from pace. It comes from pushing when we needed to pause. It comes from rushing when our spirit needed rest.
This week I asked myself one simple question. Is my pace protecting me or punishing me?
When my calendar is full but my spirit is steady, I can hold the work. When my calendar is light but my mind is bracing, I can feel the lie.
Busy becomes sustainable when the rhythm is honest.
That may look like:
• fewer tabs open • slower mornings • more pauses • less noise • one task at a time • choosing restoration instead of performance
None of this makes you less capable. It makes you more anchored.
A slow pace does not shrink your brilliance. It allows it to breathe.
🧠 BUILT DIFFERENT
Built different means I have lived enough life to know that urgency is rarely holy. Slowness is rarely a mistake.
Disabled leadership taught me that the body is not an inconvenience. It is the curriculum.
Pace is part of dignity. Rhythm is part of access. Breath is part of strategy.
I lead differently because I live differently. My clarity does not arrive in a sprint. It arrives in a hum. A warmth. A knowing that shows up only when I stop forcing myself into the wrong rhythm.
Built different means my body gets to speak. And my life gets better when I listen.
If you are tired. If you are stretched. If this year asked more of you than you expected. There is nothing wrong with you.
You might just need a slow way back to yourself.
🧾 Final Word
Baby hear me good. Your worth is not measured in speed. Your brilliance is not tied to urgency. Your leadership is not less because you choose breath instead of burnout.
You are allowed to move at the pace that protects you. You are allowed to choose softness in a hard world. You are allowed to take your time.
And in that slowness, your clarity will rise again.
