An eventful April and writerly Spring here at Killerpuppytails
Hello hey hiiiii
Wow April is passing fast. How does this happen? It’s like the weight of all the time I’ve experienced so far pushes me faster and faster along the track of the future. I gotta figure out how to get more writing done. I’m way behind.
Quit hedging - did you see the eclipse?
We tried! The cloud cover was too much so we only saw one glimpse of the transit. The photo is cloudy enough that it looks a little fake.
But. BUT.
While we strained our eyes hoping we’d see more, we eventually we acknowledged it wasn’t going to happen and decided to enjoy the other aspects of totality.
That’s when we saw some interesting magic.
Lucky for us, we didn’t go to the center of totality; we were only a little ways in, at the north end of the lake my mother lives on. I’m really glad we made that choice, because that bright line up there?
That’s the edge of totality.
(Pardon me while my jaw drops again.)
All the dark clouds are where the sun is totally obscured. The bright clouds are where the sun still shone a little.
It was SO incredibly cool to see this bit of nature, and while it looks underwhelming in the photo, I was pretty gobsmacked about it. Of course, I still wish we’d seen an unobscured eclipse, but this is a pretty damn close runner up in the coolness factor for me.
What else is up?
I mentioned the SpringWrites! Literary Festival in my last email and it’s coming up on the first weekend of May, so if you know anyone in the area, feel free to pass this news on! Plus, even if you can’t be there in person, they have some fun Zoom events the following week.
I’m also thrilled to report that I was invited back to the Shining Moon podcast to talk about speculative short stories that were nominated for the Nebula awards. I love talking with Deborah, and this time I was with three other writers who had some fun things to say. It’ll be up sometime in the coming week, so I’ll probably mention it again in the next email.
I’ll also be on a virtual panel at the Nebula Conference! The conference goes from the 6th to the 9th and my panel, “Writing LGBTQIA+ Characters,” is on June 7th. All panels will be recorded, so if you can’t attend live, every panel they do will be up for a year after the event. Unfortunately the recordings will not be free to watch, so if you can afford to register, I recommend it. If you register you’ll also get access to writing classes throughout the year.
So yeah, that’s my spring so far. April eclipse and podcast! May in-person event! June conference! Quite a busy time.
That’s all well and good, but…no new stories?
No new news on that front. If we get to mid-May and there’s no news I can share, I’ll send y’all a flash story, just for you.
Deal. And?
Of course. Sorry for the low quality, but here’s a puppy:
With love and weirdness,
