Breaking Free of the Illusion
A roundup of news around the release of Spectrum #1
SPECTRUM issue one has been loosed upon the world. No take backs!!!
I’ll be signing copies of SPECTRUM #1 at Capitol Comics in Raleigh, NC this Saturday (11/23) from 11am to 3pm! Special thanks to my friend Harrison Stewart for setting up the event (check out his art over on Instagram). If you’re in the Triangle area, swing by and let’s chat!
Dave and I appeared on the Comic Book Couples Counseling Podcast together to chat all things SPECTRUM #1. From the name of the podcast, it sounds like Dave and I are in counseling—but our relationship has never been stronger (love you, Dave 💙). The name actually comes from the fact that the hosts, Lisa and Brad, are a married couple who enjoy talking comic books. They have been incredibly generous with their support. We are actually going to record an episode for each individual issue of SPECTRUM, something (I believe) they’ve never done before for a series.
We’ve gotten some amazing responses from readers so far. If you read issue one and enjoy it, please SHARE your experience loudly (singing is optional but encouraged) and tag us. Indie books like this need all the help they can get with building word-of-mouth success.
Dave was profiled over on Forbes (?!) by Rob Salkowitz. Random, but cool. Luckily (for Forbes’s audience) he didn’t ask either of us for any financial advice. Rob had some very nice things to say about SPECTRUM. Read the article here.
“…the miniseries recaptures the kind of unpredictable excitement of long-ago classics like Grant Morrison’s 1990s epic The Invisibles or Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen when it was originally serialized in the mid-1980s.”
I’m over on Bluesky. Follow me here. As far as social media networks go, so far it’s not actively poisoning my brain, so that’s good.
Shadow helped me unbox my comp copies. He prefers Batman.
There are also plenty of reviews you can seek out. I appreciate anyone taking the time to read, engage, and write about the book—but they are not things I can read myself, for a variety of reasons. If you’re interested in reading any critical appraisals, follow Dave or I on social media and we will (continue to) share them as they arrive.
Let’s end with a song, shall we? Until next time.
