Good Morning. Hello. How are you? #1818
Chores chores chores, Unifi streamers, Boy Harsher

Good morning hello ha ha the joke’s on you. I am writing this at 3:25 PM on Sunday. I gotta get up and take Jane to school and then go to the airport and then fly and then take the T to Davis and get a burrito and then walk the community path to the house and then nap because I will be so, so tired, and then wake up at like 4, and eat Zoe’s or some delicious Thai and then go see Cabaret Voltaire with Sean and, if the god’s are willing, go to Man Ray for Karaoke. Gonna rule.
But there will be no time for GMHHAY in there, and I really, really want to tell you about CHORES CHORES CHORES this weekend. Which is weird because they weren’t even really that exciting. Well, I mean, some parts were. I got the in-ceiling speakers in the garage working, and I am using a Unifi streamer and it all works with everything else Unifi and it is all self hosted and man Unifi rules, except for that selling the Russians thing. Boy Apple sure was dumb not listening to that dude and letting him go off and make Unifi on his own. Classic Innovator’s Dilemma right there. Ubiquiti Networks only has a market cap of $35 billion, what is $35 billion to Apple? Too small of a market. Remember when Walter Isaacson said Apple had solved the Innovator’s Dilemma? Yeah right. Now Ubiquiti is starting to encroach on Apple’s turf — well, turf Apple wishes they had — with home IoT things. HomeKit still sucks after a decade.
But I digress. That part was great. But then I tried to get the Unifi security cam for the patio all set up and I just couldn’t make it work. Spent like three hours on it Saturday, trying to figure out what the hell was up with the Ethernet cable, tracing it all the way from the switch to the floor. Couldn’t figure anything out. Wasted a whole day. That kinda sucked.
So today I sucked it up, cut the cable where it goes into the floor, added a RJ45 plug to that segment of the cable, tested it, it failed, the failure was under the floorboards. I had to unscrew em all and pull em up with sucked because I had already caulked there AND used joist adhesive whoops. But I got em up, and sure enough, I had just stupidly fucked up the install, ran the ethernet cable right over a joist ,and it got flattened and shorn clean in half. No idea how I did that. But now it is fixed. So I got the two patio cameras installed, now I have a great view of the driveway at Chore House. This seems pointless but a) now is the only time I really have to do it, and b) there are tons of people going in and out of Chore House it’s not, like, a residence, more of a commercial property situation so it seems more necessary.

So since Nick’s coming this afternoon to go to a Son Volt show with me this evening, and I had a lot of chores at home to do, I cut it short on Chore House chores today at around 1.
I am not happy how little I got done, but also I got to a milestone, where all the newly Installed ethernet is all running, so I guess I am content. And I’m psyched about that Unifi Streamer, it is great. At $199, it is about twice as much as the Wiim ones I have been using, but a) PoE powered, so fewer cables, b) Ethernet connectivity for better connections (I am so done with WiFi trying to stream audio around the house), c) HDMI, d) Optical in AND out, d) ease of Unifi setup. So, probably worth it, even though I’ll need, like, eight of the freakin things. But I can do it slow, as I can afford them, over the years. Time to set up an eBay alert.
Oh and jane and I picked a ton of tomatoes (gave em to the Mother in Law), thai peppers, banana peppers and zinnias. That was fun.
AND she “helped” me again yesterday in the studio, with caulking the floor. I love it so much when she’s up there helping.

Listening to the new Boy Harsher, on recommendation from Jes in the GMHHAY slack. I like it a lot. She says it’s different from the old Boy Harsher, which I also remember liking, but I can’t remember what it sounded like. This clubby track I’m listening to now, though, “Hard Beat,” would sound so awesome at Man Ray. Album is called Get Mean.

Melissa Auf Der Mar, the bassist who was in Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins and looks like a Pre-Raphelite painting come to life, is apparently also a great photographer and was documenting her rock star life the whole time and now has a book of photos. It is sensibly called Melissa Auf der Maur: My ’90s Rock Photographs. I bought it. It is great. Strong recommend.

Hello if you are in Chatham County on October 7th please consider coming to our Red’s Boat and RV Storage Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Chatham County Chamber of Commerce. It’s gonna be great. Yes, I am, or we are, members of the Chamber of Commerce now. I promise I will still stay a progressive liberal lefty whatever the heck you want to call it. I am not picky.

Did you hear about how we almost started a war with China because some analyst was using OpenAi Chat GPT and reported to the Powers That Be that a ship going to Iran was containing nuclear weapon parts or something and we were going to attack this Chinese ship out of the blue and start a war until one person, who no one is naming but hero, decided to, like, you know, CHECK? Super great.
I am sorry but those people who tell you that they like AI and use it because it’s useful are the same people that would have put lead pipes and asbestos in our houses. I know that’s mean, I know, I know, but jesus. We almost started a war. And kids keep killing themselves. It is so depressing.

Jane’s been being a lunatic this weekend, getting the zoomies at bedtime, saying mean things to me, etc. BUT we also made a deal, she and I. We discussed daddy music and how SOME of it is good, and the problem is it is so much music and she never gets to hear what she likes twice. So we are making a JANE DADDY MUSIC playlist. She tells me when she likes a Daddy Music song, I star it, put it on a new JAND DADDY MUSIC playlist, and then we listen to that playlist sometimes when she is tired of daddy music. I think it is a good plan. Fingers crossed.
We ran into her Bojangle’s friend Violet on Saturday morning that was nice. Had been a while. Violet and Jane ran around like lunatics and climbed all over everything but luckily the Bojangle’s dining room was pretty empty at that moment.
Talked to Violet’s dad a bit and HE is the Halloween Decorating Obsessed spouse in his relationship. They too have one of these gigantic 15’ skeletons, and they too, are the first house in their neighborhood. Only he is starting to decorate this week. I should not tell Emma this. Emma don’t read this far.
I told him how we store the skeleton completely assembled in the crawlspace and his eyes went real wide and he was like “I could do that! I’ve been disassembling him and lugging him to the attic like some schmuck!”
Happy to help, sir.

Nick just arrived. Perfect timing. No playlist for you. See you tomorrow!
