Good Morning. Hello. How are you? #1779

Yogurt journey, Aggro Ioniq Guy, Duke NC's rate hikes, Troy Jackson, Sheila Divine, Structural Engineer, tiny play kitchen collecting

Good morning good morning. Greetings from the world’s worst daddy, who is terrible and mean because he makes you take showers and brush teeth. Just the worst.

It is raining. It is awesome. I mean, do I want to drive 14 hours tomorrow up the entire Eastern Seaboard while it is raining? No, I do not. But are my watermelon happy? Is Jordan Lake happy? So happy. We’ll take fifteen inches, please. That is how far we are off average this year climate change whaaaaat?

Just back from dropping Jane off at camp, and I think I saw Aggro Ioniq Man in line with his kid dropping her off, and he looked sort of chagrinned? If it was him? Maybe this whole thing is a misunderstanding? Who knows, man? Does he know what’s really going on? Do I? Does anyone?

Yogurt update: I have eaten my six ounces of plain whole yogurt sprinkled with stevia and I might even say it was yummy. The mechanics of sprinkling 100% stevia crystals is turning out to be very complex, it would be cool if someone made thumb-sized sifters, but I will manage. Look at me, I am a grown-up who eats yogurt now I am not three addicts in a trench coat what are you talking about? Fitter happier. What are you talking about I haven’t drink/drank/drunk/drinken a gallon of fridge cigarettes Diet Coke this morning.

What I have learned through this yogurt journey is that human beings have very rich interior lives filled with yogurt journeys and recipies and are very happy with where they have individually landed on their own yogurt journeys and the world would obviously be a better place if this is the sort of thing that was on the front pages of our papers and what our president obsessed about.

Aside from him being healthier, of course.

Don’t have any meetings this morning so I sat at McDonald’s this morning with my fridge cigarette and read my email leisurely and my god being retired is going to rule so hard. I can just smell it. I can smell it. OLD PEOPLE.

I have about four hours of work-product work to do today, and no meetings, and I can do it all on my own time, in the order I want, without interruption and it is going to be BLISS. Normally i am constantly interrupted by meetings and work emergencies and my head is permanently frazzled and I can’t actually get the important part of my job done, which is thinking. Being a CEO is so hard, man. Woe is me.

WANT

GMHHAY Maine correspondent tells me that Troy Jackson is not gonna pull a Fetterman, so that is relieving. He is just another man with anger issues, which, you know, there but the grace of immense amounts of emotional work go I. Do the work Troy Boy.

He is, however, only three points up against Collins? That is not great. We need to do better than that. I thought this guy was like Maine’s favorite son or some shit come on maaaaaaan.

We are listening this morning to The Middle Ages, the newest Sheila Divine album. It is awesome. Aaron is awesome miss that guy. Also I love albums about being middle aged it is great.

LIFE, MAN.

“Should we go somewhere where people still believe in love…”

La la la. I haven’t seen the Sheila Divine in years. Also someone should release that “Live at the Paradise” CD on vinyl. I feel like I said this like a month ago. But it remains true.

Please enjoy this Loves Secret Domain-era, never-before-seen photo of Coil some guy posted on the internet this week.

Our electrical bill was four hundred dollars. We used 2,100 kwh of elecricity. How the fuck. And this is on top of the 1,700 kwh that we generated, our second highest amount in the last two years. And I haven’t been charging my EV here, I’ve been charging it over at the other house. What the fuck. I know the AC is the culprit — you can see it in the graph. But a) I have been very good about turning off my office minisplit, b) we’ve been keeping the house at a not-unreasonable 75. What the fuck! I wish I we could get one of those thingies that go in your breaker box and tell you which breakers are using the most electricity. I wish there was some way you could track the cost of a kwh over time without going through all your bills oh shit am I going to do that? And what is this $70 rider adjustment wtf? And oh yeah there IS a $24 charge I opted into for clean electricity.

Sigh.

Relatedly, right now our electrical provider is negotiating with the state on new rates. This whole thing is such bullshit. The idea of states regulating utilities wasn’t the worst, but it has been coopted by business interests. We should just have public utilities. Except those are kinda fucked too. Public authorities maybe. I don’t know, man. Hurry up with the improved solar panels.

They were trying to raise rates in NC twenty percent. It’s down to ten percent. Well. For you and for me. Not for data centers. Their increase will only be 8%.

Look I learned something on Threads yesterday:

The more you know! I mean… 500 or so snarky replies, but hey! One solid answer!

Finally got ahold of the structural engineer on the studio project — my first guy had left his job and the firm had to re-assign me and I swear to god it took like four months. I We are fighting over inches on where I can put a knee wall. It is fun. He also told me I knocked down a wall I should not have knocked down yet so I should hope it doesn’t heavily snow in the next few months. Whoops. But mostly, he says I can do the things I want to do, and that is good. Also he doesn’t need to make another site visit which is good because those things are like two grand for some reason. I like this guy I hope he sticks with me. Feels like there’s a lot of turnover in residential structural engineering. Definitely seems like this is the entry-level stuff and they all want to progress their careers to, like, Pentagons or something.

Okay yes I have a record collecting problem — and a Care Bear collecting problem, and a vintage vibrator collecting problem, and a hotel key collecting problem, and, and, and. But my wife? She has a tiny play kitchen collecting problem. This is her third! her third! But this one is pretty rad: it’s an industrial one, for a school or something. HEAVY DUTY TINY KITCHEN. Sounds like a late-period MGMT song title.

Jane had been a pill to me for five days straight and it is pretty exhausting. But this morning, after being a pill about teeth, we got in the car and This Mortal Coil’s “Song to the Siren” came on and she did not say a word through the whole song and listened to the whole thing and, oh, pitter patter, my heart. What a moment. What a moment.

We are off to Boston tomorrow. Probably no GMHHAY entry, but I suppose that depends on my wife’s desire to drive and my daughter’s desire to use screens instead of making me play car games. We will see, we will see. If I don’t talk to you I hope you have a great weekend.

Not the face of someone happy with daddy at the moment.

I told you I had playlists done but ha ha ha turns out I lied whoops. Here. I will give you this old Elevator Drops tape some guy posted on Youtube. Different versions of the songs, I think? Haven’t checked it against the old 7”s yet. Anyway, it is great. Miss those guys.

Have a lovely day!
