Good Morning. Hello. How are you? #1774
Yogurt journey day 2, Ian Sweet, Discogs war of wills, more Blind Melon shit.

Hi hi hi how are you? Thursday. One meeting today. Job interview. Data scientist. Gotta have those data scientists, you know. Data needs to be scienced. Let’s look at their LinkedIn. Hrm. Decent resumé, no direct experience but a lot of related experience. No photo but that’s fine. Indeterminate last name but that’s fine. Lives in a cool city. Oh god a baby. But that’s fine. Will be an interesting chat at least.
Had someone unsubscribe yesterday, their email address, which I did not recognize, seemed to indicate they were a fan of Bruce Springsteen. I wonder if I chatted to much about non-Bruce music yesterday. Mysterious. I sure do love Bruce.
I forgot to bold highlights in each paragraph yesterday. Sorry about that. You had to read the whole thing closely I guess. My apologies. I’m gonna bold the hell out of things today in compensation.

Day 2 of my yogurt journey. Stuck with this Chobani all natural with protein thing. To clarify I said I didn’t care about the protein because I get enough of it not because I don’t want protein. I thought maybe yesterday’s was too tart because it was lemon flavored, but the vanilla was too tart too. They are not cutting the stevia and monkfruit correctly. I love the texture though. Lotta my friends said just go with the Fage 2% plain. Turns out that’s what Emma eats. And I looked at the ingredients and it has NO sweeteners, natural or unnatural. That is fine with me. Emma puts blueberries in it (or did until poopin disease world not sure what she’s doing now). But I think if the texture is as lovely as that Chobani I had, I could just eat it plain.
I checked my second nearby grocery store and it has exactly two yogurts in non-plastic containers. One is a coconut-based affair that looks amazing and comes in glass and is ten dollars a serving, so, um, maybe not? The other is a teeny tiny french-style one with too much fruit. Alas. The hippie store has one too I might pick one of those up and see how it is.
Another yogurt expert friend recommended Nancy’s and I am passing along their pitch here because it does sound great. This grocery store did not have it, alas.
I can't let a yogurt conversation past without evangelizing about Nancy's. Chuck Kesey invented the idea of putting acidophilus in yogurt in 1970! If you look at the probiotics on their label, you'll see an ® symbol next to a couple of strains. No yogurt brand can use that unless it contains a clinically significant number of that probiotic. I'm not sure any other national brand does. Gastro surgeons at our local hospitals prescribe Nancy's yogurt and kefir to their patients. It has a tart flavor that is off-putting to a lot of people, but if you can get past that, or add a little sweetener to balance it out, it's just really good, clean food.
I mean. Probiotics and the Merry Pranksters. Sounds like a match made in heaven. Those hippies weren’t all sell-outs. Or, I guess, some were sell-outs in a good way? It’s complicated.
Looks like they have Nancy’s at the nearby heath co-op. Sadly it seems to come in plastic. Cmon, prankster.
Man someone should make Yogurt in aluminum. Is there a reason why this doesn’t happen? Maybe they chemically interact with each other.

We are listening this morning to the lingering single songs at the top of the To Investigate playlist, because I have finished giving everything in the playlist 2 listens and it is almost completely cleared out. Also I do not have that many LPs on the way because I have been – gasp – trying not to spend so much money. At the moment I am listening to a track by IAN SWEET, who are a lovely shoegazy pop band. It is an advance track from their new album Shiverstruck which comes out next Friday. That is exciting maybe I can convince my family to listen to it on the drive to Boston. I am now consulting my archives and it seems that I have not yet listened to their 2018 album Crush Crusher or their 2016 album Shapeshifter. I will need to check out the early works of Ian Sweet. Sorry. IAN SWEET.

Was perusing the Blind Melon-associated (hyphenation question there do I insert a hyphen into a band name? Seems weird. Paging Ivel) Wikipedia pages and I learned a few things. The surviving members of Blind Melon did not continue as Blind Melon, they hung up the name for more than a decade. Eventually they randomly met some dude and decided to do some shows with him and that lead to an album but they did not, in fact, set out to continue with Blind Melon after Shannon’s death. They played in other bands, the main guitarist became a lawyer. He works in HR law.
Shannon had a kid whose name is Nico Blue, which is a pretty good name. I do not know if their last name is Hoon or the last name of the mother. She turned 31 last week. Happy Birthday, Nico Blue. Must… oof, man. I think I would grow tired of telling people my dad was a young promising rock star who OD’d on coke after a show at the legendary Houston goth club Numbers (another fact I learned yesterday).
There are now three new records I have sitting here (lol at me saying two paragraphs ago I’m not buying many records) that do not currently have Discogs entries. Every day I just refresh the page and see if someone else has made the entries yet. It’s like a battle of lazy wills with other contributors to this glorified wiki. Remember when the dream of the web was going to be user-generated content? Lol turns out the whole thing was a plot to steal your labor and destroy society. Whoops.

Jane is in a “lazy” mood lately and it is so tedious. Too lazy to brush her teeth, too lazy to go up or down stairs. Too lazy to go to the car and go to a place she wants to go to. Dances around like a maniac all day at pop star camp, goes to gymnastics, runs around like a maniac, stays manic till bedtime, can’t calm down, but is too lazy to go up a staircase. Flying Spaghetti Monster give me patience.
I had some other good Jane tidbit for you that was positive and cute but I seem to have forgotten it and didn’t write it down. Blame Daniel Kahneman and his discovery that humans have a bad habit of focusing on the negative. When she’s 30 will I look back on this time and only remember the negative? Probably the opposite, right? Right?
All right Rick wrap it up you got shit to do. Gotta do your morning numbers checks for assorted bank accounts and dashboards, write your morning welcome to the employees. Ooo it’s Thursday you gotta check NC’s COVID and Measles dashboards. Oooo maybe they will make a Cyclospora dashboard. MORE DISEASE DASHBOARDS.
Oh shit maybe I will even suck it up and make the Discogs entry for this new Swell 7” I have sitting right here. Nooooo I refuse! Rage against the machine! To the barricades!

Today’s playlist is a cleanout of the singles at the top of the To Investigate playlist. They stay up there if I like em and/or there’s a new album coming out and I need to be reminded. So, you know, ends up being a decently varied but pretty good playlist. Except maybe that pumpkins song I do not know why I have a morbid curiousity and listen to every new Pumpkins album. I mean occasionally there is still a pretty great song. Dude’s a lunatic but he’s still got some talent. Warning the last song is very very metal.

Righty-o see you tomorrow. Wait will I? I have the day off. Tough to say. I may or may not write. I will probably write. I can’t really live without writing who are we kidding I might go crazy and explode.
