Important news waking up at 7:30 is still unpleasant just not as unpleasant as waking up at 6:30. But today Emma was up too, she is off to the airport to pick up Jussi who is visiting for a week. That is very exciting. We are going to see a bunch of 80’s bands over several days and it’s gonna rule. And I couldn’t pick Jussi up this morning because I have work work work work work work, as Rihanna says. Just ran payroll for the timecard employees at viridian. Already reviewed a deck for the day job.

Soon I will probably hit the GMHHAY community up for a bunch more Google reviews. You guys were so good about that when we started the pool company. Man. You really can’t start any business anymore without sucking up to the social media mafia. Instead of banning kids in the UK maybe we should ban businesses from social media. Oh wait. I take that back. The job of social media manager is, like, one of the last remaining upwardly mobile jobs for liberal arts grads.

This Iran deal is a hoot, eh? I mean what’s in it? You don’t know. Is there air? You don’t know you don’t know. This guys is amazing. He basically went to Iran and said “look I fucked myself and you I am sorry but I need you to play along so I look tough until after the mid terms so how about I bribe you and we do a secret deal that has everything you want in it and nothing for me and we just don’t tell anyone” and they were like “sure sure” but of course maybe justifiably don’t like the guy very much for, I don’t know, bombing their country so they’re gonna take his money and fuck with him a little bit. Or a lot. And if they can help it they’ll tank Vance’s prospects in the process. They may be weirdo fundamentalist religious fanatics but they are no dummies, I regret to say.

I would like to also point out that while I am not in favor of anyone predicting the future ever this deal is shaping up to be exactly the capitulation I called a few months ago. So far, I am wrong on the Strait being permanently tolled, but I suspect that in the end, that’s where it’ll end up. we are not done yet, obviously.

Are Galaxy Quest references more hip than Simpsons references? Are Simpsons references only for old people now is it like referencing Betty Boop or something? Do xiennels get Simpsons references? It is crazy how many Simpsons references I know and use even though I haven’t watched a single episode in like 20 years and most of them I have only watched one or two times. I have been thinking recently it might be worth it to suck it up, sit down, and watch all the Simpsons in order. Is that insane? Has anyone ever done this? It’s insane, right?

We’re listening to Chapterhouse this morning, their “hit” album Blood Music, though Chapterhouse was never very popular even in their heyday, except with EDM heads who know them as the source material for the magisterial Chapterhouse/Gobal Communication collaboration Blood Music: Pentamerous Metamorphosis. But they are in a revival right now, doing another reunion. I am sad I missed it. Jussi and I saw the Blood Music tour when it first happened, and we saw a reunion in, mmm, gonna say 2002 or so — Middle East downstairs, half full. Once again I am going to express amazement at how insanely popular shoegaze has gotten.

My god, imagine if Global Communication and Chapterhouse toured Blood Music: Pentamerous Metamorphosis. That would rule. Never got to see Global Communication did they ever play live? Wow. Setlist.fm has a total of six Global Communication gigs listed, across 22 years. Apparently they played a Red Bull festival in 2019 and Bestival in 2011. Shit. That woulda been rad.

Might have to listen to Pantamerous Metamorphosis right after Blood Music. Would make sense after all.

Mojave 3 finally announced their reissues. Isn’t that timely? Just, like, what? Three days after I wrote to you that they need to hurry up and announce those reissues. I am so prescient I am so timely look at me. Woo woo. Time for my New Yorker profile. Imagine if being an indie rock soothsayer got as much press fluffing as being an AI soothsayer wouldn’t the world be a better place. Anyway you will be impressed and saddened to know I did not buy the box set. I merely purchased the two individual vinyl albums I did not already own – Out of Time and Spoon and Rafter. I am content. My Mojave 3 collection has successfully fully transitioned from CD to vinyl. Only took 20 years.

Update on the Yiddish metal thing, my friend Nick informed me yesterday of a Jewish Orthodox Priest who makes black metal. Many Jewish Orthodox priests these days speak Yiddish. Though not all. And they are not speaking it for the socialist, community-aid reasons I am learning it. But I will take it. Nick being the friend he is purchased me a copy of the album. I will keep you apprised as it arrives.

Learning Yiddish is pretty hard! But also easy! The Hebrew alphabet is kinda unpleasant to learn, and Duolingo is not a great way to learn it. There are no mnemonics, no explanation of anything just route memorization. So I gotta make up my own mnemonics. I wonder if there is a more efficient way of learning Yiddish. Why are there two Ss? Why are there two Is? No idea!

I have had a series of non-regular morning meetings this week, 9:30 every morning with a couple of co-workers as we bang out a deck. And every morning, Jane sits on my lap through the whole meeting snuggling. The first morning she wouldn’t stop yapping but by day two she got the gist of the mute button and would yammer only when we were on mute and then when I went off mute she would (mostly) be quiet. But she would still be constantly yapping in my ear as I tried to listen.

Then, on top of that, while on the call for the day job with Jane on my lap, Doug and I launched the site for Red’s and reservations started coming in and I gotta tell you. I was a bit overwhelmed? That is a lot of stuff to be doing at the same time!

I have the same call again in an hour, though and Jane is not downstairs today and I must admit I am a little sad? Doing calls with a snuggly kid on your lap is kind of great.

Noise and metal playlist for you today you know you love it. It is the best. Boy I cannot wait to finish my studio and start a black metal drone band. Life is going to be so much better.
