Good Morning. Hello. How are you? #1477

Dramarama, Tesla Earnings, Gridfinity, Justa Store, Earth Day, Protests, Lisa Germano

Good morning good morning. Hello. How are you? Doing okay today? I am sort of off my political fantasy bloom from yesterday. Though it should not be a fantasy! It should be a plan! I am so disgusted with modern Democrats are any of them going to do anything? I mean, is this the end of them? There were other liberal political parties in Nazi Germany and they didn’t exactly go down in history as heroes. AOCs rallies are nice, I guess, but I want PLANS and ACTION. I want a plausible path to a return to normalcy har har Harding sucked. Has a train car at Alaskaland Pioneerland, though. Visited Alaska. Gotta give him props for that. Okay fine I will add links to that tangent.

Everyone’s just so afraid, man. I think most people don’t even realize how afraid they are to speak out. Especially anyone with any sort of power or authority. Fear everywhere. Really poisoning all of us. Fucked up.

Today in the Slack we discussed phone cases, cool old lady sunglasses, my fevered political fantasies and a lot of memes. A lot of political memes. Big thing over there.

We are listening to Lisa Germano this morning. 4AD finally issued Geek the Girl on vinyl for Record Store Day. I bought a slightly damaged copy, breaking, again, my new year’s resolution to cool it with the vinyl. I need to re-commit to that resolution, man. I am starting to slip. First time on vinyl. 4AD was in the heyday of CDs when she was on their roster. Can’t believe they dropped her. That is BS. But I am not listening to Geek the Girl. I have moved on. I am on her albums from Michael Gira’s Young God label. Listening to In the Maybe World. It is haunting and beautiful. Lisa Germano rules.

Speaking of records, after listening to and filing my new Will You Find My box set by Ida, I am considering filing all my box sets in with the rest of my records. Is this heresy? I don’t even know. Seems crazy. Yet I feel uncontrollably compelled. The box sets, alone, feel like a useless appendix. Integrate em into the body, man. Wellness. Make the record collection healthy again. MRCHA.

I forgot about Earth Day, which is a big thing over here at GMHHAY, because every Earth Day — a few days later, if we are being honest — we like to discuss the enigma that is Dramarama’s 1991 Earth Day anthem “What are we gonna do” which inexplicably starts off with a line that incorrectly states the date of Earth Day:

It’s April 21st and everybody knows today is Earth Day merry Christmas happy birthday to whoever’s (sic) being born

Always a thrilling day when you get to use the poetry markdown block.

Anyway, Dramarama wrote the song for the 20th Anniversary Earth Day concert, and it was a two-day affair, and they wrote it on the spot and, well, they fucked up. Got distracted by all the trash strewed around the festival grounds apparently.

Also they reformed recently. Well, not reformed because they never really break up. Dude I follow on Youtube posted a bunch of live shit from a Dramarama club show in Jersey from this year. I never saw Dramarama. Jealous. Did you Dramarama is an insanely good band? To this day? Lotta amazing albums you have never ebven heard of. Might I suggest Color TV. Great record.

BUT there is an “Emendation Mix” of “What are we Gonna Do?” that came out two years ago — so, you know, after we started harping on this here at GMHHAY. It is a new mix that fixes the lyric:

It’s April 21st and everybody knows tomorrow's Earth Day merry Christmas happy birthday to whoever’s (sic) being born

So, enjoy:

I would like to state, for the record that I love saying things like “back 20 years ago” or “back in 1992” to young people so they think “god this guy is so old.” I find this act to be deeply satisfying and I love inflicting slight shock and discomfort on the youngin’.

Tesla earnings came in yesterday, just gloriously, absolutely catastrophic. 70% decline in auto revenue or something like that. Elon saying unhinged stuff on the call, just completely batshit stuff. Stock went up, which is of course insane and stupid but also can only be explained by people knowing that it was going to be fucking terrible. Elon said he will be pulling back from DOGE and spending more time on Tesla which is supposedly a good thing and responsible for the stock not tanking more, but of course it’s completely bonkers on its own because:

  1. A CEO admitting he wasn’t paying attention to his company should be fired.

  2. He didn’t say he was leaving DOGE completely, even though the law requires it soon? So, like, just basically said he’d break the law and everyone shrugged. Please add it to the list referred to in yesterday’s very serious post.

  3. He didn’t say he was coming back completely, so, see #1 above.

  4. It is 100% obvious that this dude coming back to Tesla is going to make things absolutely worse.

As an aside, do you think they’re even working on the Roadster anymore? The vehicle they promised seven years ago would be out five years ago? And took, like, half a billion dollars of reservations for? And are still taking reservations for? Not one mention on their earnings call. Elon barely talked about cars at all. Not fraud nope nope nope.

Heard there was another protest this weekend, wish I could have gone. But I was flying home. And apparently there is one on May 1st. These things: a) need to be promoted much better, b) we need to concentrate them into one giant protest, c) need to not be run by a bunch of people who are proudly new at this? Though I suppose the first one was run by a coalition including Indivisible and they were also pretty bad at promoting it. We need one protest to rule them all. Pan-organizational. Am I being picky? I don’t mean to be. Maybe I am being bourgoisie. I should be out there every weekend. Though realistically not everyone is gonna be out there every weekend so can we, like, pick one big weekend? And more than a week out so people can, like, plan? K thanks bye armchair strategist over and out.

I finished my first 3D printing project, setting up Gridfinity in this little desk organizing cart I have next to my desk here. It worked great! I should have used the Gridfinity base which accepts magnets, but I think it works without them because I am not going to be pulling out these trays very often. Deeply satisfying to organize a messy space into nicely packaged up little things. I wish I could do that to our Republic. Except in a leftist way not like Stephen Miller or the dad in The Lego Movie. Anyway, picture for you:

Also I would like to say that the guy who invented the (open sourced) Gridfinity system is gloriously nerdy and unhinged and his videos are just the best of unbridled nerdery.

Jane was very good the whole time I was gone but she has regressed back to being a PITA at bedtime, not doing her teeth and jammies. We think it might be the engineering game videos she and I watch together before bedtime. So I talked to her in the car this morning and told her that if she argues about teeth and jammies there will be no more videos. She is such a lawyer. First thing she did was make sure it was only going forward, not including tonight as punishment for last night. I did not agree to this, I dodged. You know, her best friend is Chinese and her mom is apparently much more strict than Emma and I are and… I don’t see much difference in their behavior, actually.

What is discipline is there even a point.

Justa mix for you today. This mix includes aforementioned Young God-era Lisa Germano, and aforementioned Emendation Mix of the Dramarama Earth Day song. And some Clash from back when I was giving Sandinista! a listen. And some Michael Hurley RIP. And new Quickly, Quickly it is a really good record. And new Lael Neale very excited about tht upcoming album. And more Daniel Gum. I have learned a bit more about him. He was once in a band excellently titled Pillow. And another called Peacable Alaska. Is he Alaskan? No idea. But he is current. This album that I am obsessed with, The Great Conjunction, is from 2025.

OH. Also. I stopped by Justa Store in Fairbanks while I was there. Took a picture for you. Bought myself a single canned manhattan and drank it while writing you issue number 1473. Could you tell? I was tanked. I love that place, though. Every person in line in front of me made it a point to tell the cashier exactly what was going on in their life. It was not readily apparent the cashier cared. Yet the clientele persisted.
