Whitney Museum + UMOCA + SB-720
Hi all,
Excited to share that my 2023 work, Liquid Crystal, will be part of a group exhibition opening at the Whitney Museum on November 21. artport: A History of Internet Art, curated by Christiane Paul, brings together many friends, colleagues, and legends from the internet art scene.

My new work, Dirt Nap, is on view in a solo exhibition at UMOCA in Salt Lake City through January 2, 2027. Utah has been a meaningful place for me to make art over the years, so it’s especially nice to have the work there and to hear responses from the community.

Last month I installed SB-720, my first permanent public art installation, at the new Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the University of Oregon. The work is a grid of images from 720 hikes I’ve taken to the top of Spencer Butte over the past 14 years. You can also view the images and follow the ongoing project at spencerbutte.net.

Protections for public lands and sacred places like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante have once again been rolled back, exposing millions of acres to new mining claims and oil and gas leasing.
My 2018 video work Western Fronts, which examines the ongoing conflict over these lands and their protection, is being exhibited this fall at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, NY, as part of Eclipse of the Sun Now, and at BRANCH: Trees in American Art at the Trout Gallery at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.
Western Fronts continues to be shown on public video screens at the Long Beach Airport, the Los Angeles Central Library, and MIT’s School of Engineering.

Rick
