It’s Never the Perfect Time
The weather was sunny with a cool breeze. Perfect for a trip into Amsterdam. Learn why imperfect action beats waiting for perfection every time.
The weather was sunny with a cool breeze.
Perfect for a trip into Amsterdam.
Perfect for strolling around canals in front of crooked houses, drinking coffee, and nibbling on pastries.
But I didn’t go.
I stayed home and cleaned my bike.
I didn’t feel like cleaning my bike.
I didn’t have the best cleaning products.
I knew I couldn’t get it as clean as I wanted.
There were much better ways to spend my time.
It wasn’t the best time to do it (it rained an hour later).
I knew I’d get wet and greasy.
I did it anyway.
If I waited for the everything to be perfect before cleaning my bike—perfect time of day, perfect weather, perfect tools, perfect amount of confidence, perfect amount of time, perfect ability, perfect conditions, perfect desire—I would never clean it.
This has been the case for the last 6 months.
However, if I always took action, despite everything not being perfect, my bike would be in better condition.
“Good-enough clean” beats “perfect bike clean”.
What are you not doing because you can’t do it perfectly? Because you don’t have the perfect tools? Because you don’t have the perfect amount of time? Because something better keeps popping up?
Take imperfect action my friend.
Something is better than nothing.
