There’s a picture I cannot get out of my mind. It’s of a kid handing a wax crayon drawing to her mother. She’s giving away her beautiful, expressive, and playful piece of artwork. Again. Another one. And once she’s given it away she begins creating yet another.
At some point in our transition from being a kid to being an adult we stop giving our artwork away. We start stockpiling it, hoarding it, comparing it, criticising it. We stop being generous with our work. And there’s probably a really good psychological reason for this. Whatever the reason may be, I’d like to invite you back to that state of creation—there’s something freeing and beautiful about it.
Kids don’t stockpile their wax crayon drawings. They aren’t limited to a certain number of pieces they can create. And they don’t stare at their work, stuck to the fridge, in admiration. They give their work away. And then get back to creating more.
Your work and your generosity have the ability to light up other people’s worlds. So print it. Paint it. Render it. Share it with your friends. Share it with a stranger. Be generous. Give it away. Put it up for sale. Send it to your grown-up child. Send it to your grandad. Gift it to a friend. Don’t worry about where your piece ends up. Keep on being generous. And get back to creating the next piece.

P.S. There’s so much more to say here. What comes to mind when you think of a kid handing a wax crayon drawing to her mother?
