June 2026
Hi all!
Happy June! It is halfway through the month already, but that's ok i think :)
May was a really wonderful month for me. The nicer weather here in Boston has been delighting me; it reminds me of home. Also, because I'm an event planner for college students, work has been slower and will be slower for the next few months, which is nice. I've still been trying to figure out how to use the bulk of my off time, but it'll likely go into substantial writing.
So far, it has not been poorly spent playing board games with roommates and hanging out with close friends. More of that is likely in the cards. Specifically, Tabby bought me a board game called Moonrakers for my birthday which is now one of my favorites. I also spent ~a week straight with Finn, which was nice before he left FOREVER (6 weeks) for work in Philly. Consistent daily exercise, between running, the gym, tennis with Ian, and yoga has also been a literal breath of fresh air. It feels good, starting to rebuild my cardio from my winter hibernation.
During May I also had some time to push on a few places, personal development wise. First, I submitted my community college research paper for publication, which is exciting really excited. What a grind that was though -- I submitted it at 3am the night before it was due while tweaking from an energy drink called Gorilla Mind. Phenomenally, very unique for me. I also took a diagnostic practice LSAT and did alright! Since, I've been exploring options for law school, though a lot of stuff remains up in the air. I also spent a lot of time writing, though I haven't been able to finish much yet. Follow the substack for immediate updates.
Next week, I will be dropping by Philly for a few days (June 17-June 21), before returning home to Carlsbad for a week (June 22-27). If you are in either spot, lets hang!
What I've been listening to: I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning by Bright Eyes, Dance Tonight, Revolution Tomorrow by Orchid (still), and Hyperdrama by Justice.
What I've been reading: The Public and its Problems by Dewey and Devotions by Mary Oliver (thank you Jasmine :)
Some long shot asks:
Im looking for
An engineer who wants to hear my pitch for a new alarm clock and could be interested in a start-up
An introduction to someone working in either animal law or tech/AI law for a brief (~15 min) call to help me determine how lit a JD would be
Really Good chiptune rock songs/LPs (e.g, Get Olde/Second Wind by Crying)
I remain,
Ryan Baylon
