Out in the woods
Hi friends,
Being out in the woods is so important for my well-being and creativity. As I write this, I'm drinking coffee in a campsite in cool but not cold moist air, among longleaf pines growing in sandy soil. Yesterday was a stroll through the woods day, sandwiched between two long days of driving down 95.
My partner and I are on another road trip! This time in my own Honda Civic, not a rental van. Destination: somewhere warmer! Specifically, near Tampa, Florida.
It didn't get dark until 6pm yesterday, a huge improvement from the 4:30pm dusk I suffered through near the solstice. Another sign we are starting to leave winter behind: finding big clusters of big oyster mushrooms. My feet feel comfortable, not prickly and swollen in my shoes.
I saw bald cypress trees growing "knees" out of the water. One bald cypress is the 5th oldest tree in the world (of the trees that have been cored and the rings counted).
We slept in the car one night and the tent one night so far. I have to say, the tent is more comfy haha! But the car was also totally fine. If you'd like to see how we set up a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid for two people to sleep inside, check out our YouTube video!
Take care,
Rey
