What would you like a Community Hub to do?
The second question we asked at the Community Hub Forum was ‘what would you like a community hub to do? The feedback suggested that we use existing venues as a ‘shop window’ for all the groups, societies and associations in Marlow, to promote information about them and engage new members. Residents also wanted to use local organisations such as the doctor’s surgery and estate agents to provide information to newcomers. The key word was linkage so that all age groups and interests were brought together at a neutral venue, which could also provide a means for residents to meet with their town councillors. Creating links between the active groups in our town was considered key.
A community hub could offer a befriending service for the elderly, disabled, housebound and bereaved, to drop in for a cup of tea, play board games and let residents discover activities and groups they could join. It would be especially important to support those residents who don’t ‘do’ the internet.
‘I found the community hub forum a positive, enjoyable and informative session.’ Roderick
