Supporting local businesses
Dear ,
The idea of Residents for Marlow, as a group of independent candidates for the local elections, came from the desire to see change in the way our local councils interact with their community and the willingness to roll up our sleeves to make this change happen.
We want to go beyond the legal requirements in terms of town councillors duties to represent our fellow residents. We believe that the town council should promote local businesses through its purchases.
Our town is full of entrepreneurs and independent retailers that we should all support through our purchases and contribute to their success. This is what makes Marlow stand out.
The guidelines for procurement in local councils stipulate that you need to ensure you maximise the value of your purchase — including social value. It encourages greater local partnership, environmentally positive practices and being open to innovation. There is a big emphasis on promoting small businesses in the guidance that is fully aligned with our ethos!
So, as councillors, we intend to close that Amazon account, look on our door steps and employ the services of Marlow businesses when and if required.
When local businesses thrive, the community thrives.
