Community hub discussion (IV) - how would you like it to operate?
Sharing further feedback from the ‘Community Hub’ discussion on Saturday 25 Jan, the 4th question was ‘how would you like a community hub to operate?’
The key word here was ‘inclusive’ for all, communicated across all channels to reach the widest number of residents, and ‘trusted’ by residents so it becomes a genuine community effort. The commercial dimension was proposed, with the hub as a marketplace for local craftspeople to draw residents in. It would need to offer refreshments, computer screen access, perhaps a snooker table and darts board. A kitchen could offer cookery classes for low cost and high nutrition dishes.
A community hub would need to be open at least one day at the weekend and a minimum of two days during the week. The query was raised about funding… Would a community hub need to raise its own funds to operate? How would its value and success be measured? These questions will be addressed as we and the new hub volunteers further progress the Hub concept.
