Repair Café Sun, Jan 11th @ City of Fairfax Regional Library

Happy New Year! Next month, our Repair Cafe will be one year old. Together, we’ve spent the past year trying to fix things that would otherwise be thrown away. Not everything makes it over the finish line, but we are grateful for your time and willingness to try.

Here’s a few things we want to share with you:

Next Repair Café: 10:30am-12:30pm Sunday, January 11th

City of Fairfax Regional Library

Orange and navy blue text on a white background, with block letters spelling out the "Repair Cafe" logo. Text reads: "Sunday, Jan 11th, 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm. City of Fairfax Regional Library. 10360 North Street, Fairfax, VA, 22030-2514"

Our next event will be in Old Town Fairfax, at the large library off of North Street.

Here’s the library address:

10360 North Street
Fairfax, VA, 22030

For transit: This location is served by WMATA MetroBus F23 and F50, and the Fairfax City CUE Green and Gold lines.

By car: This location has a 2-level parking garage behind & under the library building, accessible from University Drive. Follow city signage from North Street for the library/parking.

Doors open at 10:30. We close to new knife sharpening at 12:00pm, and we close to all new repairs at 12:30pm. This helps us make sure we can clean up the library’s room before we leave.

Next up: February, March Cafés

Sunday, February 8th, 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm @ Pohick Regional Library

6450 Sydenstricker Rd
Burke VA 22015-4274

Saturday, March 14th, 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm @ Thomas Jefferson Library

7415 Arlington Boulevard
Falls Church, VA, 22042

Digital-only version of the Fairfax County Repair Cafe poster, tagline, "Serving NoVA and DC". Text states, "Fairfax County Repair Cafe is a team of volunteer "fixers" with a variety of skills. We diagnose, repair, and recommend. Bring your items or questions and join us! Free household item repairs: Sewing, small appliances, jewelry, computer help, knife sharpening, and community fun!" Next to the "knife sharpening" there is a note that says "limit 3 blades per visitor". "Snacks, Repairs, Conversation. Everyone is welcome! Sunday, February 8th, 10:30am-12:30pm at Pohick Regional Library and Saturday, March 14th, 10:30am-12:30pm at Thomas Jefferson Library." Below the logo at the bottom are the words "Move slow and fix things." In the corners of the poster are QR codes that go to our website on RepairCafe.org and our Mastodon account, with links written below the codes.
Our promotional poster for Feb/March. We also have a printer-friendly version!

Greenbelt Repair Café: Sat, Jan 17th, 10am-2pm

If you can’t make it for our Cafe, or if you just want more repair in your life, the Greenbelt MakerSpace will be hosting their quarterly Repair Cafe one week after ours. Find the event here: https://www.greenbeltmakers.org/event/free-repair-cafe/

Like our event, this event is free! If you’d like to work with them, they’re recruiting volunteers. See this page for more information: https://www.greenbeltmakers.org/events/repair-cafes/

Volunteer Listserv

As we approach the one-year anniversary of our Repair Cafe, we’re delighted to find that some people want to volunteer with us on a recurring basis. We have previously offered volunteer signups via VolunteerFairfax and Idealist, but for people who like what we’re doing and just want to know when our events are, we’re starting an email listserv tailored to current and prospective volunteers. You can find it here: https://lists.riseup.net/www/info/repaircafeffx

To receive emails from this list, send an email to this address:

repaircafeffx-subscribe@lists.riseup.net

It doesn’t matter what the email says, in the subject line or in the body.

Then follow the instructions in the confirmation email to finish subscribing.

This isn’t the only way to get information from us, but it’s one of many methods to get efficient information to the right people. Visitors and volunteers need different information about our events, and recurring volunteers may not want to find our signups every single time. Plus, as we move around the Northern Virginia area and explore places outside Fairfax County, not all of our volunteer listings will be appropriate for Volunteer Fairfax.

Here’s our Volunteer Fairfax listings for the next few events:

January 11th: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191094

February 8th: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191095

March 14th: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191096

That’s all for now - thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to fixing even more things in 2026.
