Repair Cafe Sat, Jun 6th @ Great Falls 10:30a-12:30p

Summer is here, and Repair Cafe is still meeting throughout the season!

Here’s a few things we want to share with you:

Next Repair Café: 10:30am-12:30pm Saturday, June 6th

Great Falls Library

An orange and navy blue graphic on a white background, featuring the Repair Cafe logo in block letters. Text reads, "Saturday, June 6th, 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm. Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, VA, 22066."

Our next event will be at Great Falls Library.

IMPORTANT: This event will not have knife sharpening, unless we manage to get a volunteer for this date. Do you know someone who could help us? Please send them our way!

Here’s the library address:

9830 Georgetown Pike
Great Falls, VA, 22066-2634

This library does not have a public transit connection.

By car: This library has a parking lot at the side of the building, with a drop-off lane.

Here’s a link with more information about the library: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/great-falls

Want to help? We’re still looking for a few more volunteers, including Repairers, Knife Sharpeners, and Childcare volunteers: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191304

Mini-Workshop: What comes after Windows 10?

We’ll be holding another rendition of our mini-workshop on alternatives to Windows 11/the end of support to Windows 10, complete with some example computers for a show-and-tell.

Here’s the library’s page on the event: https://librarycalendar.fairfaxcounty.gov/event/16802299

This workshop will be a quick overview of fact and fiction around Windows 10 and Windows 11, and what you can do about it. We aim to demystify this software and help you take back ownership of your computer & digital life.

If you’re interested in running a mini-workshop with us, send me an email at anicski@proton.me - mini-workshops can be on any topic related to repair, crafting, and other adjacent areas. We’d love to hear your ideas!

Fairfax County Repair Cafe poster, tagline, "Serving NoVA and DC". Text states, "Fairfax County Repair Cafe is a team of volunteer "fixers" with a variety of skills. We diagnose, repair, and recommend. Bring your items or questions and join us! Free household item repairs: Sewing, small appliances, jewelry, computer help, knife sharpening, and community fun!" Next to the "knife sharpening" there is a note that says "limit 3 blades per visitor". "Snacks, Repairs, Conversation. Everyone is welcome! Saturday, July 11th, 10:30am-12:30pm at Ellen Coolidge Burke Library and Saturday, August 15th, 12:15pm-2:15pm at Oakton Library." Below the logo at the bottom are the words "Move slow and fix things." In the corners of the poster are QR codes that go to our website on RepairCafe.org and our Mastodon account, with links written below the codes.

Repair in our community: Community Mending Circle @ Mary Riley Styles Library

One of our community members has started a Community Mending Circle, which meets every third Tuesday at the library in the City of Falls Church. Find their website here: https://www.communitymendingcircle.org/

The Community Mending Circle logo: a light aqua circle with a dashed border, featuring a needle, thread, and a pair of scissors crossed in the center.

This is a free event during the day - part co-working, part skill-sharing, and part socializing. If you have a project you’ve been wanting to work on, consider bringing your supplies and visiting the Mending Circle!

That’s all for now - thank you for your continued support, and have a great summer!
