Harvest

photo of a lot of jalapenos

Apart from a couple of stray rays, the sun seems to have left for the south and made way for the fall. That basically means that the peppers, which came in very late this year, aren’t going to grow or ripen on their own anymore. They also have very little heat to them as a consequence.
I’m attempting to ripen them off the plant, we’ll see how that goes.

Today’s topics:

  • Zines
  • Pixel game
  • Photography
  • Type type type

Zines

3 zine covers

Not my work, this time, but 2 zines from other Game Boy Camera aficionados: Dan Lane and Koen de Bruijn. Dan’s ‘reductive gallery’ takes you through a black and white museum visit, while Koen’s zine uses color themes/chapters to convey different moods (eg. ‘sepia’ for a nostalgic touch, ‘green’ for the classic GB vibe, …).

Do take a look at their Instagram accounts if you would like to grab a copy or just to look at their work.

Game making

A small update on the Magritte-inspired game I’m working on. I have about 15 background screens left to make, and a couple of in-game ones (eg. logo screen, character picker, …). Seems like a lot (it is) but I’m almost 2/3rds of the way through.

# Photography #

Not a whole lot of pixel photos from the summer days but I’m pretty fond of the 2 I made on a recent trip to Brussels.

A bit countrary to the big cleanup I was undertaking last time: there’s 2 more typewriters in the collection now. I do have good reasons for them.

A friend gifted me an Olympiette, which turns out to be a pretty good writer. From what I’ve read (especially from American collectors), Smith-Corona (and Hermes, if you get your info from Tom Hanks) always seems to come out on top when it comes to quality and writing experience but I now have 3 Olympia machines in the collection and those turned out to be the better ones.

The Remington Ten Forty is the only Remington in the collection and a bit of a different style than anything else I have. But look at it, it’s just a beautiful machine. At €6.5, it’s also the cheapest one I’ve come across so far.

This does mean I’m sell off at least 2 other typewriters.
(If you’re in the market for one, let me know - no international shipping though)

# Final thoughts #

I’m going to cut this dispatch a bit short to enjoy the rest of this Sunday. It’s been a stressful couple of months at work and I have at least 1 more to go at the same level.
Have a good week, don’t forget to take some rest every now and then.

See you next month!
