Paper cakes are available online

Two images of paper cake. One is a close up of a paper fork sliding into a chocolate icing cake. The other is a paper sheet cake piece with white icing and chocolate cake.
Photos by Andria Lo

Hi friends,
I’m hopping on to let you know that I have work up at a gallery! I have ten pieces up at the FOCUS gallery at the Penland School of Craft until September 27th, and the work is available on their website.

If you want to jump right in, the work is available here.

I don’t often sell original work, so that’s a treat, and it’s a new adventure. Plus there’s even a bunch of 2D work mixed in, which I’m excited to explore further. And it goes without saying that all of the pieces center on CAKES.

Two New Prints in the Shop!

Photo of a framed print with two rows of paper cakes

Just a quick note to you to say: there are two new prints in the shop! One is—you guessed it—cakes, and the other is a longtime favorite of a row boat out at sea.

Head on over to the shop for new prints

The boat image is available in two sizes! 8x10 and 11x14. I'm putting it up as a pre-order, and it will arrive by 12/23.

Click here to learn more and submit!

I always forget to say the word "paper" when describing my love of making cakes to someone. I love making paper cakes. I am offering paper cake slices. It has been a favorite subject of mine for so long that I can't imagine being someone that makes real, edible cakes, and I frequently omit the medium. And now, I want to make these cakes for you! So I am trying something new and taking requests for custom cake slices. Pricing ($350), timeline (a few to four months), process (a form), and other important details are at the link above.

Moseying into 2022

Hi friends,

Now that it’s a full month into the year, I may finally be settling into 2022. I moseyed my way through these weeks, with a bit of mental housekeeping. I slowly called into question the goals I had set for 2021, the routines I’d settled into, and the motivations behind all of these things. My morning routine, for example, has become a tour of activities through different parts of the apartment that takes over two hours, so a bit of Marie Kondo “Does this bring me joy?” housekeeping was in order🧹. Put in other words, I looked for the default “shoulds” that had weaseled their way into the previously joyful parts of my day. I took a cue from a fellow independent artist who told me that she was giving herself the gift of January to feel things out and be slow.

Meanwhile, in art land, I’ve been back to creating. I was inspired to make a bobblehead tiger to celebrate the new year, especially since it’s my zodiac year. I also started a personal project! I now have a goal of organizing a shoot around it later this spring (hint: CAKES). I’m trying to follow through on these whims and ideas this year—something I landed on from some of that mental housekeeping I mentioned above. It’s worth mentioning that all of this personal project making has been a work in progress: it took me over two years since starting my art business to do a single non-client project. The 36 Days of Type project was my first one! It's taken time, scheduled play, and permission to get here.

✨And here it is...✨

Hi friends!

First off, thanks for being here.

Second, many of you are here because I’m releasing a pack of images for licensing! Last year, I created numbers zero to nine out of paper, and those ten images are now available for use on your brand’s social media! The images have been recently edited to be a cohesive set, and they’re looking pretty rich and LUSH, if I do say so myself (I do).

Here’s the link to get your own pack.
