Gone fishin'

We're taking a day off, which in our case means we're only writing a few hundred words as opposed to triple that.

We're taking the rare day off for the first time in our… 29 issues?! (For the purposes of having a banner 30th edition, this one doesn’t count.) All three of us are out of commission today, so we're keeping it light. We'll be back later this week with an interview from Toussaint!

/out of frame, now with a double meaning because none of us are here:

✈️ Kambole: Spent a week in Tokyo for the international film festival there – where I caught the animated musical The Obsessed, which thrives on the idiosyncratic character design from Arakawa Masatsugu and the Crayon Shin-chan-flavored antics from director Takahashi Wataru. Now I'm in Edinburgh, presenting a strand of anime curated for the Scotland Loves Anime festival. As for things of interest, check out this fascinating piece from our friends at Animation Obsessive, tackling an overlap of my two loves: animation and film stock. The "truth" of restored film images is a constant source of arguments on "film Twitter" so it's interesting to see that interrogated with regards to a landmark of digital animation.

👿 Rollin: When I first lamented the lack of official KPop Demon Hunters merch back in August 2025, a $150 three-doll pack of HUNTR/X from Mattel that's expected to ship by October 2026 wasn't what I had in mind. They look great! But it's not exactly an affordable option for kids.

👨🏾‍💻 Toussaint: I just picked up my Blu-ray copy of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and have been leisurely enjoying my rewatch through the series. Very excited for the second season coming sometime in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future. Also, peep that blink-and-you'll-miss-it nod to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo at 0:35 in the Edgerunners 2 trailer!

See you on Friday!
