The future of Amazing Race and The Profit; reviews of The Crystal Maze and Spy Games
Dear newsletter friends,
The Television Critics Association’s winter press tour has ended, so I’m home and looking forward to my first weekend in three weeks, as we don’t stop on weekend days. 🥱 But first, I’m finishing a reported piece on The Biggest Loser, which returns next week.
In the final days of TCA, I broke some news, so here’s an update about the future of The Amazing Race.
Also this week, I interviewed Marcus Lemonis about how he’s changing The Profit, and how this week’s episode connects to that.
Survivor’s upcoming milestone 40th season has set a record, and here’s a chart with all 40 seasons to show you how it fits in.
In other news, Life Below Zero is getting a spin-off and two new seasons.
Two reality show reviews
I reviewed Nickelodeon’s version of The Crystal Maze, which is hosted by Adam Conover. Spoiler: it’s great.

I also reviewed Bravo’s new competition Spy Games, which has some great moments and challenges (especially in episode three), but is also not quite sure what kind of show it is.
I followed my review of Spy Games with a behind-the-scenes story about how it came together, with interviews from a producer and one of the judges/assessors.
And that’s everything I wrote in the past seven days. Have a terrific rest of your Friday and weekend. And thanks for reading my stuff.
best,
Andy
