The Challenge's shocking mess • an Emmy upset • fall reality TV • a sneak peek • recommendations and more!

Reality in Focus issue 306

Dear newsletter subscribers,

A project I first started working on in 2019 is finally coming next week! I've been teasing it on social media, but as a newsletter subscriber, I wanted to tell you about it first!

On Thursday, I'm publishing a massive behind-the-scenes story about the original seasons of The Mole were produced.

It will be similar to my huge behind-the-scenes story about The Amazing Race season one.

With the new Netflix version on its way, I thought it was time to finally return to this and wrap it up. I still have more work to go, but the more I write, the more excited I am to share it with you.

If you haven't watched The Mole, well, I hope you do! I give season one my highest recommendation.

What fall show(s) are you looking forward to?

The fall reality TV season starts next week, and on Monday, I'm publishing a story with your fall reality TV picks.

So, tell me: What reality show(s) are you looking forward to this fall—and most importantly, why? What would you recommend other people watch?

If you need a refresher about what's coming, the full list is here.

You can simply reply to this e-mail, or send me a note here, and then look Monday to see if I was able to include yours!

The Challenge USA

What a mess

The finale of The Challenge USA’s first season was a complete mess—but that's nothing compared to what happened behind the scenes.

I wrote three pieces about this season and the finale:

  1. Why is The Challenge USA so bad at challenges?

  2. Who won The Challenge USA? Who quit? Who got screwed? My finale recap

  3. Challenge USA players’ shocking claims: actual theft! unwritten rules! a wrong answer!

  • This Emmy-winning competition, which is on Amazon Prime Video

  • This episode of this game show, especially the second half when Keke Palmer and Yvette Nicole Brown play as a team.

  • This project, which I'm also doing—and FYI, you can get the stamps and/or supplies free!
