🔥 Survivor night bonus!
Three fun behind-the-scenes Survivor facts and secrets
Happy Wednesday, aka hump day, aka Survivor night!
Since we love a behind-the-scenes detail around here, I thought I’d curate some stories for you now and then.
To kick that off, here are three fun Survivor facts, island edition!
🇫🇯 Why is Survivor in Fiji forever now?
Tired of the same beaches season after season? There’s a good reason CBS has made Fiji Survivor’s permanent home: money!
The show gets a rebate of 45 percent from the Fijian government. I’m bad at math but I think that’s almost half of the costs covered! 💰💰💰
Also, expenses such as labor are also much cheaper there, and not having to move around saves a ton of money, too. Here’s Jeff Probst on that and other production details.
💩 Where are the bathrooms on the island?
There 1) are none, so the toilet is either 1) the beautiful waters of Fiji or a dirt hole, and there is 2) no toilet paper.
However, menstruating players have access to hygiene products. More fun poop and toilet details here.
🏝️ What’s the original Survivor island like today?
Friend of reality blurred Justin Walter, who you may have seen as the travel expert on The Jennifer Hudson Show, went to Pulau Tiga in Borneo.
He found the Tribal Council clearing still there, as was the mud volcano from the reward still there. He also visited the beaches and the tiny island, Pulau Burung (Bird Island), where the opening credits filmed someone holding up a torch. Join Justin on his (written) journey here.
