A cardinal on a snowy pinecone | reality blurred newsletter issue 326, 17 February 2023

Dear newsletter friends,

I'm working on a redesign of my personal website, mostly to update ancient technology behind the scenes, but it's given me a chance to tinker and play, like creating a new logo for myself.

While I was doing that, I realized my last name has the word ART in it. I'm 45 and didn't know that! Or I knew it and forgot because I'm 45. 😂

Here's the working logo:

Andy Dehnart, with the "art" in blue

The stylizing is, well, on-brand for me, and also I'll be using my website to write about the art and craft of writing. Thoughts? Feel free to reply and let me know!

On to this week's reality TV...

Reviews and a recap

GIF of person on a couch wearing sunglasses saying "I love it"

I reviewed:

  • Netflix's Perfect Match, which I found to be perfectly idiotic and barely coherent

  • A much better and more interesting dating show: Love Trip: Paris

I recapped Tough As Nails’ penultimate week and its thrilling challenges:

  • Did Tough As Nails trash one team’s chance at $60,000—or one pair’s immunity?

This week's reality TV + an interview

GIF of person gesturing and saying "I'm excited"

The finale of this great Amazon Freevee competition dropped last weekend, and I interviewed:

  • the winner of America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation

  • ...and also the final three!

This week's reality TV premieres include:

  • new seasons of Summer House, The Masked Singer, and American Idol

  • two shows from Australia: The Challenge: Australia and Heartbreak Island

  • the golf show Full Swing and the surfing show Make or Break

Specials and docs premiering this week include the Puppy Bowl and Love in the Time of Fentanyl.

Reality TV news

Gif of person wearing headphones laughing
  • Netflix renewed The Mole, and I found some interesting information in the casting application

  • Peacock dropped both The Traitors: UK and The Traitors: Australia 🎉

  • Giada De Laurentiis is leaving Food Network after two decades for a deal with Amazon Studios, where she'll produce and star in food reality TV

  • Jinkx Monsoon is starring in Broadway's Chicago, and Playbill says since her arrival, "the show's box office has seen a notable uptick," and is somehow filling more than 100 percent of its seats.

🤩 I recommend

  • This dating show, which is so refreshing—and still dramatic!

  • This "dating" show, only if you'd like to see a show that had no idea what it is but now has 12 episodes on Netflix

  • This competition, which returns Sunday and is Food Network's best

  • This article about why Rihanna's halftime show was in the air

Programming note: This newsletter is taking next Friday off, because I'm taking next Friday off, but will be back the next week with the spring reality TV guide, a new Survivor, and much more!

Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend!

best,
Andy
