reality blurred and I need your help as its 25th anniversary approaches
Dear friends,
In two weeks, reality blurred will turn 25. 🎉 That's a long time, judging solely by the massive monitor in this photo, the only picture I have with me and the computer on which I started this site in July 2000:
Ah, the days of film and limited photos!
I was wearing that stylish plastic cap so a friend could frost the tips of my hair using an at-home kit. Ah, the early two-thousands!
I certainly never imagined I'd still be writing ridiculous recaps, never mind interviewing iconic Survivor players, reporting on contracts, tracking premieres, and everything else we do around here—including talking about it in our vibrant community.
That said, to be honest, it's a tough time for independent media and smaller sites, with Google punishing us; people using AI chatbots for answers, even though AI can't actually answer questions and thus gives wrong answers; and people scrolling through corporate social media rather than going directly to individual websites (I do it, too!).
Honestly, it's bleak: So far this year, my ad revenue is down 64.62 percent compared to last year, and visits to the site are down 66.52 percent. Oof.
Still, I'm committed to continuing to do this work, with no paywalls, no teaser e-mail messages, just (hopefully) useful content and a lot of fun, which we all need these days.
I'm also asking for your help to recover some of what's been lost.
Before reality blurred’s birthday, my goal is to:
- add 31 paying supporters, to go from 69 to 100
- add 93 newsletter subscribers, to reach 3,000
