Netflix's Survivor changes, Killer Camp's death, Andy Cohen vs. Erika Jayne, and more

Dear newsletter friends,

Happy Friday! Has anyone seen October, because I’m not quite sure where it’s gone!

Earlier this week, I was on Reality Steve’s podcast to chat about Big Brother, Survivor, and the potential IATSE strike. Give it a listen if you’d like to hear more of my voice—besides the occasional audio updates I share here.

Okay, on with what I wrote this week!

Survivor now and then

How are we feeling about this season of Survivor? I thought this week’s episode had a few highs, but a lot of lows—in the form of too much focus on unnecessarily complicated advantages.

Here’s my Survivor recap.

In that, I transcribed the 195-word rule document for the show’s latest (bad) advantage.

In big Survivor news: Netflix is dropping the two seasons it’s had streaming since last November, but it’s adding two more Survivor seasons—and they’re great seasons, too.

This also means that you have just over three weeks to watch Survivor Cagayan and Survivor Heroes vs. Villains on Netflix.

Reality show news

  • Here are some real-life horror stories from behind the scenes of your favorite shows. They’re truly scary.

  • The CW killed its campy killer show Killer Camp. If you haven’t seen it, here’s my review

  • Erika Jayne revealed that she gave her RHOBH paychecks to Tom Girardi, after being grilled by an uncharacteristically aggressive Andy Cohen, who said, “I know what you make on this show. It ain’t bad.” That exchange really bothered me.

  • I’ve updated the fall reality TV schedule with a lot of November premieres, especially from Netflix—but also with some shows that’ll premiere next year!

⭐️ I recommend

  • Both of these seasons of Survivor on Netflix, but hurry!

  • Only Murders in the Building on Hulu, which ended this week. It has elements that parody true-crime entertainment, but became a lot more than that.

  • This show on Hulu, if you’re missing Mary Berry on GBBO

  • This show, if you’re missing Ted Lasso

That’s everything for this week! Enjoy your weekend.

best,
Andy
