Magnolia Network launches: This week's premieres: July 12 to 18, 2021
Dear newsletter subscribers,
Almost 50 new and returning reality shows are coming to television and streaming this week, thanks mostly to the launch of a brand-new network. Here's your look at all those premieres.
In the eight years since Fixer Upper’s pilot premiered on HGTV, Chip and Joanna Gaines' brand of farmhouse style has spread well beyond HGTV, taking over home renovation projects and also multiple sections in Target. Now it's expanding into a lot more reality television, with 22 new shows launching this week alone—and many more to come—as part of a brand-new channel.
Magnolia Network officially launches Thursday, as both a part of Discovery+ and as an app. While the network was originally announced as a cable channel in 2019—it's taking over DIY Network—Magnolia is instead launching as part of Discovery's streaming service, Discovery Plus. That tells you how much has changed in just two years, and how much Discovery wants you to pay them (more than you might already be paying for its cable channels), which is also why Discovery's networks keep moving shows back and forth from cable to streaming.
