Great Food Truck Race's route • Ninja Warrior editing • Amazing Race/Survivor • Life Below Zero's spin-off
Dear newsletter friends,
I’ve been in a (virtual) writing workshop this week that includes three hours of intensive class every day, but also lots of reading and writing homework.
I feel like a student again. Probably because I am! It’s been fun learning so much so fast.
While I am taking a break from teaching undergraduates next year, I’ll soon be on the other side of the Zoom screen, doing some online teaching.
Speaking of, I’ll be the guest on Mediavine’s Summer of Live Tuesday.
On the show, I’m offering tips to writers, bloggers, and content creators about refreshing their writing—and will also talk about two upcoming online classes I’m teaching as part of the new Mediavine University.
You can watch me live on Facebook Tuesday, June 28, at 1 p.m., or on demand after that at the same link. Also follow that link to get a reminder to watch.
I don’t plan on flipping a table, but it should be a fun time.
Food Network Q&A
This week, I answered two questions about Food Network shows:
After I published the story, the host of Great Food Truck Race, Tyler Florence, weighed in with his answer on #1. (That’s now in the story, too.)
Deep dives
I took two deep dives this week, into:
American Ninja Warrior season 14, talking to its showrunner about everything from the editing (how do they decide who to focus on?) to how the arrest of one of the show’s stars affected future production. More here.
Life Below Zero: First Alaskans, talking to both its showrunner and a story producer about the show’s representation of Native Alaskans. Is this show just “going through the motions of diversity and inclusion”? More here.
Summer—and fall!—reality TV
CBS’s fall schedule was released, and it includes Survivor and Amazing Race’s premieres—and Big Brother’s (different) finale date
Other fall premieres are being added to my quarterly premiere schedule; just click September or scroll to the end.
Here are this week’s reality TV premieres, and documentaries airing on TV
🤩 I recommend
This show, which is returning next month and has three seasons on Netflix if you haven’t seen them—or just want to re-watch!
This show, which is fascinating and has incredible access
This show, which just ended its third season—and its riveting second season is free on Showtimes’s website
That’s everything I have for you. See you in your inbox next Friday!
