why I recommend it ► An hour of people helping each other is a nice antidote to the daily firehose of shit from the news

Why you should watch
This is the only show on this list I hadn’t watched before starting this project, because it’s brand-new, premiering on TV last night.
It follows multiple James Beard award-winning chef Lidia Bastianich traveling America, meeting people who volunteer their time to help communities via food.
She begins talking about how “bleak” things are, but “out on the road, I find something else on the rise: volunteerisim.” Yep, more people are volunteering these days.
Lidia also summarizes her findings of “everyday people extending their hands and sharing their tables, helping America remain a nation of neighbors.”
Lidia Celebrates America is basically a series of vignettes, dipping into communities and meeting people who are doing great work.
It’s not all puppies and kittens: the first segment is about people helping after the southern California fires.
But the warm fuzzies come quickly, and was a great reminder for me of how good so many people are, and how much they do to help.
Mister Rogers said that, in times of crisis and fear, we should “look for the helpers,” and this special is an hour of that.
