Also, weird NEW phones, for a change.

Hi, plenty of interesting things to share this time! I hope you make sure to vote. Let me know if any of these links strike your fancy by clicking them or replying.

Aesthetics

Tongue (radula) of a freshwater snail | Nikon’s Small World 2020 Photomicrography Competition

@frogwithaflail “flail frog” is a mysterious artist who makes progressive, anticapitalist art. I appreciate their use of text, simple images, and color.

@markyoder.designs Mark Yoder is a graphic designer based in Austin, TX who seems to have signed himself up to make a new poster every day. The works are often about design and the internet.

Technology

I want to mention The GitHub Archive Program, which will safely store every public GitHub repo for 1,000 years in the Arctic World Archive in Svalbard, Norway. I bring this program up because, despite my relatively small amount of contributions to open-source software, the code I worked on is included in this vault! It’s pretty cool to think that something I contributed to will be preserved for 1,000 years (pun intended).

Razer made a prepaid card that lights up. I don’t need this but I want it (especially because I can’t get one).

The LG Wing’s twisting screen offers a new spin on the dual-screen smartphone. And why not? I like the weird form factor.

Did you know that Ikea product shots have been fake for years?

Culture

Study finds that We Learn Faster When We Aren’t Told What Choices to Make. Read the whole article for more context, but basically, exploration is better than a prescribed path.

Really cool computational study results: Algorithm discovers how six simple molecules could evolve into life’s building blocks

I doubt most of my readers would run into this issue, but I had to mention it: Internet-enabled male chastity cage can be remotely locked by hackers!

Google is giving data to police based on search keywords, court docs show. In case you’re not yet using DuckDuckGo, perhaps you’d like to consider switching your search engine?
