Monthly Newsletter- July 2025

July has arrived with important updates in Canadian immigration, including new wildfire-related support measures, key changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), and ongoing efforts to foster inclusive immigration practices. Here’s what you need to know this month:

IRCC Introduces Special Measures for Wildfire-Affected Residents and Workers

As wildfires continue to affect communities across Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched a series of special measures to support those impacted by natural disasters.

Key Supports Available Until November 30, 2025:

·       Free replacement of lost or damaged documents for Canadian citizens and permanent residents (passports, PR cards, citizenship certificates)

·       Refunds for document replacements paid on or after April 1, 2025

·       Temporary residents, including students, workers, and visitors, can:

o   Replace lost status documents

o   Apply to restore or extend their status at no cost

o   Benefit from waived 90-day restoration period

Additionally, foreign emergency personnel coming to Canada to assist in wildfire response are exempt from application and biometric fees as of June 11, 2025.

These measures aim to reduce barriers and help people focus on safety, stability, and recovery.

Significant Changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) has announced regulatory updates to improve OINP’s responsiveness to Ontario’s labour market. These changes came into effect on July 1, 2025.

Key Updates Include:

·       New Employer Portal Launched
Employers can now submit job and business information directly, allowing candidates to register their Expression of Interest (EOI) more efficiently.

·       In-Person Interview Option Introduced
Employers and applicants may now be required to attend in-person interviews to enhance program integrity. Accommodations will be provided as needed.

·       Authority to Return Applications
The OINP can now return applications before issuing a nomination, with full application fee refunds. This enables the program to focus on applications aligned with current labour priorities.

·       Education Requirement Change for Early Childhood Educators
Applicants under the Human Capital Priorities (HCP) or French-Speaking Skilled Worker (FSSW) streams who list NOC 42202 (Early Childhood Educators and Assistants) no longer need to meet the minimum education requirement if they are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

These updates reflect Ontario’s growing need for flexible and responsive immigration solutions that serve both employers and candidates.

Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony in Halifax

On July 1, Minister Lena Metlege Diab presided over her first citizenship ceremony as Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. Held in Halifax, this event welcomed 51 new Canadian citizens from 18 countries, highlighting the diversity and strength of Canada’s growing communities.

A warm congratulations to all who celebrated this meaningful milestone.
