Monthly Newsletter - July 2024

Hi all, and welcome to the July edition of our newsletter!
As we bask in the summer sun, let's take a moment to reflect on the exciting events and accomplishments in June. Our team had an eventful month filled with remarkable celebrations, enlightening discussions, and impactful engagements!
Events
Opening Bell Ceremony at the Toronto Stock Exchange
Last Friday, we proudly participated in the Opening Bell Ceremony at the Toronto Stock Exchange for Bastille Day. This event celebrated the Franco-Canadian friendship and economic collaboration, with leaders present from BNP Paribas, CHANEL, Saint-Gobain, and more. It was an honour for us to be a part of this special occasion!
The FCCCO June "CXO Rendez-vous" Event
We had an inspiring evening at the FCCCO June "CXO Rendez-vous," featuring Emily Heitman of Schneider Electric. Her discussion with Riva Walia, Managing Director of the FCCCO, on the future of electricity in Canada was illuminating! Thanks to CBTW for hosting this great night of learning and networking!
Immigration Updates
Canadians, Permanent Residents, and Their Immediate Family Members in Lebanon
The situation in Lebanon is volatile and unpredictable due to recent and ongoing events in Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. Canadians, permanent residents, and their spouses and dependent children should follow the travel advice for Lebanon and leave while commercial flights remain available.
The government’s focus is on helping Canadians and permanent residents get the documents they need to travel and keeping families together. Canada continues to monitor the situation and will tailor their response to meet the unique needs of those who require support.
Changes to Post-Graduation Work Permit Applications at the Border
On June 21, 2024, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that foreign nationals can no longer apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) at the border, effective immediately. This measure is intended to help reduce what is known as “flagpoling.” Flagpoling occurs when temporary residents of Canada bypass the normal wait times involved in applying for a work or study permit online by leaving the country and then immediately re-entering to receive same-day immigration services.
Stay tuned for more updates and enjoy the summer!
Regards,
Rema and Rebecca
