Monthly Newsletter - January 2025

Happy January!

As we welcome 2025, we’re excited to share some key updates and news with you. From policy changes to new opportunities, here’s what’s happening in Canadian immigration this month.

Looking Ahead in 2025

At R&R Law LLP, we remain dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of Canadian immigration. With the new year comes new challenges and opportunities, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP): Paused

As of January 3, 2025, new PGP applications have been paused to allow IRCC to address a significant backlog. Only 15,000 applications from 2024 will be processed this year, with wait times potentially extending up to two years.

Explore the Super Visa Option:

·      Stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit with a 10-year multiple-entry option.

·      Enjoy faster processing times with complete and accurate paperwork.

If the PGP pause affects you, our team is ready to help you explore the best alternatives for reuniting with your loved ones.

Breaking News: Leadership Change in Canada

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party and Canadian Prime Minister. This leadership transition could signal changes to immigration policies. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Key Updates to Express Entry

Immigration Minister Marc Miller has introduced significant changes to the Express Entry system:

·      Elimination of bonus points for LMIA-backed job offers.

·      Greater emphasis on core factors such as age, language skills, work experience, and education.

This new approach creates a level playing field for global talent and prioritizes skills over job offers. It’s more important than ever to showcase your qualifications. Contact us to ensure your profile stands out.

Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Work Permit Updates

On January 3, 2025, IRCC updated Program Delivery Instructions (PDIs) to remove median wage requirements for ICT work permits and certain treaty professionals/technicians under CUSMA, Colombia, and Peru treaties.

However, the Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has not yet been updated to align with these changes. We’re monitoring developments closely and will provide updates as they become available.

At R&R Law LLP, we’re committed to helping you navigate these changes and make informed decisions. Whether it’s exploring family reunification options, adapting to work permit updates, or preparing your Express Entry profile, our team is here to support you.

Let’s make 2025 a year of progress and connection.

Stay informed, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about how these changes may affect you or your organization

Regards,

Rema and Rebecca
