Monthly Newsletter - April 2024

Hi everyone, let’s spring into the April Newsletter!

As we bid farewell to March and embrace April, we're looking forward to the spring’s blooms! It's a time of renewal and growth, and we're gearing up for some exciting events and updates in the immigration landscape.

CBA Immigration Law Conference: May 9-11, 2024 | Montreal, QC

We're preparing for the CBA Immigration Law Conference hosted by the CBA Immigration Law Section, taking place from May 9 to 11, 2024, in Montreal, QC. This event promises to be an excellent opportunity for keeping abreast of the latest developments in immigration law.

Here are some recent noteworthy updates to keep you in the loop:

1. Innovating Canada's Tech Sector:

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has unveiled a new employer-specific work permit route under the Innovation Stream of the International Mobility Program, bolstering Canada's Tech Talent Strategy. This initiative empowers Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP) participants to usher in skilled professionals to Canada.

2. Provincial Median Hourly Wages Update:

Effective April 2, 2024, updated median hourly wages by province and territory have been in effect. Employers must ensure precise submission of their Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under the appropriate stream, in adherence to the updated wage data.

3. Permanent Residence Fee Adjustment:

On April 30, 2024, fees for all permanent residence applications will witness an increase as part of a routine update. These adjustments aim to manage escalating program and service delivery costs while aligning with inflation. Stay informed and plan your applications accordingly by consulting the IRCC online chart for impacted programs and fee changes.

4. Essential LMIA Stream Updates for Employers:

In addition to the earlier mandate for annual wage reviews effective January 1, 2024, significant amendments to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program have been announced. Effective May 1, 2024, the validity of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) will be shortened from twelve to six months. Employers must adapt to these changes and explore viable options, including the recruitment of asylum seekers with valid work permits, to sustain a dynamic and compliant workforce.

5. International Students:

A friendly reminder to international students that the policy allowing full-time work while studying will end on April 30, 2024.

We're committed to keeping you informed and empowered throughout your immigration journey. Stay tuned for more updates and resources from our team!
