Protecting Community
Hey, cowpokes,
I should be back online with Rainbow Rodeo next week!
I want to highlight two community-building events this week: one online and one in person.
The Black Opry is currently fundraising to expand into its next phase and hire a small staff. Holly G and I first met in the trenches of writing Country Queer. I’ve been awed and inspired by her creativity and commitment to making country music a better place for everyone — and her determination to ensure that artists can succeed in parallel to a country music industry that only vaguely gestures at them. On top of that, she’s one of the funniest people I know and she and Tanner have been busting their asses to turn Black Opry into the powerhouse it is.
They deserve to make this into a long-lasting venture so please, donate today to make Black Opry a permanent fixture in the country music world.
If you’re in NYC, come out to our show this Saturday! I’ll have copies of the zine to purchase, and you get to see Tami Hart, The Locksmiths, Mylo Choy, and Jackfruit for the low low suggested donation of $5. Sounds like a deal to me! We’ll be at Branded Saloon in Brooklyn from 8 - 10 PM.
I hope you all have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend, and I look forward to getting back to the music next week!
