Drawing a Little Gundam - Cartoons for the Moon by rabidya
Celebrating each full moon with a cartoon
Cartoons for the Moon: Volume 1
January 2024
Fascinated by the moon since I was a small child, the full moon is a time of remembrance and love for me. My late great grandfather held great respect for the cosmos, especially the moon. He instilled that in me at a very young age.
Every full moon, if we could not be together, my grandfather would call me and remind me to look up at the sky. He traveled a lot for work when I was young and I always looked forward to these phone calls when he was away. I have postcards, framed photos, etc. of the moon from him that were given to me during my childhood. It was something that truly connected us.
Since he has passed, I have never forgotten those moments we shared, those phone calls, loving the moon. I miss him every day, and now I take a few moments of stillness every full moon to remember him, to miss him, to sometimes cry a little - my silent ritual.
This is the first issue of what I hope are many Cartoons for the Moon. I'm not totally sure what this is going to be yet besides mostly a cartoon every full moon. I may do some long form writing or poetry - maybe not. But there will always at least be a cartoon.
I only wish my grandfather could see these cartoons. I dedicate them all to my Papa, one of my favorite people in the entire world.
I hope you all enjoy. Thanks for coming along and discovering this journey with me.
xo,
rabidya
