PyBeach updates: new newsletter, next event, and volunteering opportunities
Hello, everyone!
It’s been a long few years, and we should catch up. :)
If you’re new here, welcome to the PyBeach Announcements newsletter. This is the official newsletter for the PyBeach regional Python conference, which has so far had exactly one event, all the way back in 2020.
New Newsletter
Before we get into the interesting stuff, you may have noticed this email arrived from Buttondown instead of TinyLetter, and that’s because TinyLetter was sunset by its parent company MailChimp, and Buttondown is our newsletter’s new home.
Next Event
Now to get to the most important thing: the next event.
It’s possible you caught wind of PyBeach coming back in late 2024, and you may have even signed up for these updates because of that. Unfortunately, this won’t be the case after all, though it was initially the plan. The reason is pretty simple: the organizing team is currently effectively one person, and personal circumstances have put significant limitations on that person’s bandwidth. Over the past few months not much progress was made on the 2024 event, and at some point it just became obvious that it was going to be too uphill of a battle to make it worthwhile for anyone, given that it’s already April.
Volunteering Opportunities
However, not all is lost!
PyBeach could still very much happen…in 2025! In theory it could even happen with the current one-person organizing team, but it would surely be more likely if that number were to increase. And that’s where you come in.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get involved. You may already have ideas about what you’d like to do, but not having them is perfectly fine too. A lot goes into a conference, and thus there’s plenty of work to do. There are various levels of responsibility, from chairing an entire aspect—e.g., program, volunteers, sponsorships—to putting in a few hours total, even just at the actual event.
Whatever your appetite for helping is, please do get in touch! You can just reply to this email—super easy.
Thanks for reading, and hope to hear from you soon. <3
