an update, and a shoutout
update on the status of Push Processing as a project, and a shoutout about another cool project

Howdy. It’s been a long time since I set up this newsletter and the landing page for a hopeful post-Cohost photography site on the Website League.
This update’s brief: I’ve made no progress on getting it together, as my material conditions have rendered it difficult to take the time and learn what I need to get it working. In particular, Pixelfed, the software I was planning to base it on, would need modification to comply with Website League standards. It’s written in PHP, a language I have little experience with, and my programming skills are (currently) rudimentary.
In addition: if and when I do get it working, that’s an ongoing commitment to Running a Community and Maintaining Software, and I don’t want to write checks I can’t cash. I am of the belief that an unsafe or poorly run website is worse than no website.
Push Processing remains on my to-do list. I’m making efforts to improve my situation so that I can have some breathing room, and time to work on projects I want to work on, like this one. I can make no promises about timescale here, but I’ve got the domain for another year; it might happen soon, or it might happen eventually. There is a significant chance it happens never and I reuse this really good domain name for a personal portfolio. I would prefer to make the website, but I can make no promises.
The Website League itself continues to roll along. It’s been fairly quiet much of the year governance-wise, presumably in part because everyone suddenly got a bit (or majorly) burnt out on everything around the 20th of January. It’s a small, functioning community, with the possibility for expansion still present. Tall trees take a while to grow.
With the update complete, here’s the shoutout: someone told me about the Cohost Photozine Club, a periodical zine stemming from the #coho digi club and #coho film club tags that I assume most people on this mailing list would have enjoyed. They have a nice primer on their site that lays out what the project’s all about, and their first issue will (maybe!) come out in October.
That’s all I’ve got for y’all currently. I wish I could say I’ll get the website going soon, but I know better than to make promises I’m not certain I can keep. I still intend to make it happen once I’m able to do so.
