Let's Look for Treasure!

Lots of great Pugmire news this month!

Hey all! Here in Atlanta, it is getting hot and muggy outside. It’s so hot that even Darby (my boxer) doesn’t want to play outside, instead preferring to lay on the big bed in the air conditioning. I think she has the right idea, so while I sip my iced tea, let’s get into this month’s Pugsteady News!

Being Around People Again

As pandemic restrictions ease up, me and my vaccinated friends and family have started meeting in person again for small gatherings. At first it was weird and uncomfortable, but last week I finally met up with a gaming group I’ve been with for over a decade, and it felt like no time had passed.

Well, some time had passed, because we completely forgot where in the adventure we were, but the camaraderie and joking ease of the evening was immediately comfortable. I am definitely an introvert, but I also definitely missed being social with people, even if I didn’t miss driving home at night after a game — there are advantages to just turning a computer off and going to bed!

I don’t think I’m ready for conventions yet, though. Just when I think I might want to give one a try, some new piece of information comes out that makes me nervous. It’s very day-by-day right now.

News Roundup!

Speaking of new information, it’s time to get into the latest news!

  • After nearly two years, my interactive Pugmire novel is available! It’s called Treasure of the Sea Dogs, and it’s a 100,000-word interactive text-based novel by Choice of Games. You are a recently graduated member of the Royal Pioneers of Pugmire, a group dedicated to traveling the more hazardous parts of the world to protect dogs in need, recovering lost knowledge and artifacts, and hunting down dangerous criminals. But when your trustee and patron Padraig Corgi is murdered by a dark wizard, and his family's treasured pearls stolen, it's up to you to recover the pearls and avenge his death! This was a massive project for me, so I hope folks enjoy it!

  • As I mentioned last month, Squeaks in the Deep is now on Kickstarter! We’ve hit our goal, and we’ve unlocked some stretch goals (including playable rabbit characters), but we still have ten days to go! I’d like to see if we can beat how much we did on our last Pugmire Kickstarter (Pirates of Pugmire raised $47,792, and we’re about $10,000 short of that right now), so if underground adventures with psychic mice and rats appeals to you, swing by and pledge!

  • I’ve also been on a lot of videos lately! First, my latest Extra Credits episode covers wrestling video games as a genre! But I’ve also been playing Squeaks in the Deep! The Vorpal Tales crew have been running “Curse of the Tomb of Wags” on the Onyx Path Twitch channel, and I’m playing Basil Calabash. The episodes are getting uploaded to YouTube, so feel free to catch up! I’ve also recorded a few more things, so stay tuned!

My Media

My Star Trek bug from last month has continued, but I’ve switched to watching Star Trek: Voyager because I never actually watched the show originally. It’s not to the level of The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine, but then again those are two of the best TV shows of the 1990s period, so that’s not saying much. I’m finding it’s aged surprisingly well in some areas, and very badly in others, but it’s a fun show.

I’m also really excited about The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. It’s a remastered collection of two Japan-exclusive Ace Attorney games, set in the 19th century and featuring a lot of Sherlock Holmes characters. Of course, the company was concerned about legal action from the ACD Estate, so they changed it to “Herlock Sholmes,” but aside from that obviously legally-required dodge, it’s an enjoyable series — quite possibly my favorite Ace Attorney games of all time. And if you have never played any AA games, it’s a great jumping on point, as you don’t need to know anything about the previous games to play. Highly recommended!

Anyway, if there are no… objections… I’m going to wrap this up for this month. See you next time!
