PTVM Young Adults: February 2025

PTVM Young Adults
Lots of cool stuff happening in February:
Valentine’s Day (Fri, Feb. 14th)
Prosphora Baking (Sat, Feb. 15th)
Read on for details below….
Valentine’s Day
Why fight for a reservation at an overpriced restaurant this Valentine’s Day when you can enjoy a relaxed evening with pizza, board games, and great company—right here at Protection of the Virgin Mary (PTVM) Orthodox Church?
Here’s the best part: Friday, February 14th isn’t a fasting day (seriously, no lentil soup in sight)! So, grab a slice (or three), kick back, and hang out with great company.
When: Friday, February 14, 2025 at 6pm
Where: PTVM Orthodox Church, 8600 Grand Blvd, Merrillville, IN 46410 (see https://www.ptvm.com/contact/ if you or your guest(s) need directions)
Bring a friend, a date, or just yourself — everyone is welcome! We totally get it if you already have plans, but we know Valentine’s Day can sometimes feel a little lonely. That’s why we’re here, offering a fun alternative.
RSVP now so we know how much pizza to order! If that link doesn’t work, please go to https://forms.gle/4LWGiUghxuaWxYUJ8 to RSVP).
Skip the chaos, join the fun, and let’s make this Valentine’s Day a night to remember. See you there!

Prosphora Baking
Ever wanted to bake prophora without accidentally inventing a new kind of liturgical doorstop? Join our hands-on baking workshop and learn the sacred art of making loaves that actually rise, stamps that don’t look like ancient hieroglyphs, and bread that won’t break Father’s fast or his molars.
When? Saturday, February 15, 2025 @ 10am (instruction will be for a few hours, and lunch will be served — this is hands-on training).
RSVP is required. There is a printed sign-up sheet in the narthex. Elizabeth Pedersen is leading this training and needs to know in advance if you’re attending so she can purchase sufficient ingredients.
What is prosphora?
Prosphora is the small loaf of leavened bread that is used during the Divine Liturgy each Sunday.
I don’t know how to bake bread, is that a problem?
Not at all! If you can mix flour and water without setting off the smoke alarm, you’re already ahead of the game. All that’s needed is your RSVP and a willingness to learn.
I am interested in learning, but don’t want to commit to actually baking this for services.
Of course! There is no commitment beyond your RSVP to attend (because they will be purchasing ingredients) — just an opportunity to learn. With that said, if Elizabeth sees potential, she may start dropping hints 😀
More questions? Ask Elizabeth Pedersen at church (if you’re not sure who that is, ask Tiffany O’Day and she’ll point you in the right direction). See https://www.ptvm.com/prosphora-baking-feb-15-2025/
