Men's Patristic Reading Group
Our next discussion is on the evening of Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 6:45pm, to finish discussing On the Apostolic Preaching by St. Irenaeus of Lyons. Specifically, we will discuss Part 2, concluding our reading of “The Apostolic Preaching” (so you should read it beforehand). In the Popular Patristics Series edition, Part 2 begins on page 68.
You can also read (or listen to) this book online for free:
Read: CCEL (Robinson, 1920). Part 2 begins with paragraph 42 (on page 108) in this edition. There is also an Archive.org digital scan of the same edition (link to page 108 where Part 2 begins).
Listen: LibriVox (Robinson, 1920). Part 2 corresponds to Section 2. There is also an audio reading on YouTube (Part 2 begins at the the 57:41 mark).
The OCA has a helpful biography if you wish to learn more about the author, Hieromartyr Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons.
The next book we will be reading (and will meet to discuss in late October or early November) is The Life of St. Anthony the Great. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the narthex near the entrance to the nave if you’d like the church bookstore to order you a print copy (the cost will be $5 for those who sign up in advance).
