Guys’ night out
We'll be meeting on the evening of Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 6pm at Maxim's in Merrillville.
Men's Patristic Reading Group
We are taking a break from meeting in July and are starting a new book. Our next discussion will be on the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 6:45pm, to talk about On the Apostolic Preaching by St. Irenaeus of Lyons. Specifically, we will discuss Part 1, “The Apostolic Preaching” (so you should read it beforehand). In the Popular Patristics Series edition, Part 1 ends on page 67 (we will discuss Part 2 in September). Reading the introduction is optional.
For those who signed up for a copy of the book and who wish to participate in the men’s reading group, your copies have been ordered by the PTVM Bookstore and will be subsidized. Your cost will be $5.
You can also read (or listen to) this book online for free:
Read: CCEL (Robinson, 1920). Part 1 corresponds to paragraphs 1–42 (up to page 108) in this edition. The work itself begins on page 69 (the preceding pages are the translator’s introduction and are optional). There is also an Archive.org digital scan of the same edition (link to page 69 where the work begins).
Listen: LibriVox (Robinson, 1920). Part 1 corresponds to Section 1 (the recording is broken up into two parts). There is also an audio reading on YouTube (Part 1 is up until the 57:41 mark).
There will also be a couple extra copies in the bookstore for purchase if you did not sign up for a pre-ordered copy.
The OCA has a helpful biography if you wish to learn more about the author, Hieromartyr Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons.
