Surprise: new Donohoe solo album (really a soundtrack compilation)
It’s New Music Friday, and I’m delighted to sneakily release a compilation of some soundtrack work I’ve done over the past couple years. As we continue to flesh out the material for the new Progger album (to be tracked later this year), here’s some atmospheric listening for your ears and brains. It’s exclusively on Bandcamp for now, I may end up releasing it to streaming platforms in a couple months but that remains to be seen. Here’s the link.
In 2022, I started working with an artist who goes by the enigmatic name “Argonbolt,” who commissioned me to write some music for a visual novel he was developing. (A visual novel is like a video game in that it’s interactive, but it’s more of a story that you click through as scenes change and narratives unfold.) Argonbolt’s story and musical guidelines turned out to be thoroughly enjoyable writing prompts, and I was excited when he got to work on his second visual novel last year.
The first three tracks on “Sounds for Visual Novels (Vol. 1)” come from Argonbolt’s newer visual novel, “Volt,” a morally complex sociological sci-fi story, which was released in late 2024. The last four tracks are from “Nibeos,” a supernatural tale juxtaposing hope and darkness, released in 2022. Both of these visual novels are available on itch.io, the indie game platform.
I thoroughly enjoyed composing, recording, and producing these pieces, and I hope you enjoy hearing them!
