Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #5

Summary of the Last Meeting (2/28/2024)

Big news! The Princeton Comic Makers Discord is now up and running, feel free to join! Access to the whole server will be granted upon typing the command code at the end of #about-rules. Please click here for the invitation link. If that doesn't work, let us know and we'll send you another.

Additionally, MoCCA Fest is coming up. Trevor has very kindly volunteered to organize a group meet up, and we're still hammering out the details. We will go over developments in the next meeting and Discord server. This year, MoCCA Fest will be March 16-17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion on 125 W 18th Street, New York, NY 10011. Tickets range between $12-18, and can be bought either in person or online. Click here to check out their website.

Someone also had questions about comic paneling. Please check out these resources/references:

  • Scott McCloud, "Understanding Comics"

  • Comics Devices Library

  • Posy Simmonds' work (this interview contains some lovely sketches, but we highly recommend looking at her finished comics as well)

There's also the Princeton Zine Fest happening

It will be Saturday, March 16, from 10:00am - 5:00pm. It's all about zines (which are self-published works), the making of and the culture surrounding them. Workshops will be from 10:00 - 12:00, and tabling will be from 12:00 - 5:00. Click here for more info about the event.

Princeton Comic Makers will have a table there! If anyone is interested in helping man the table from 12:00 - 5:00, please let Masha know. Her email is mashazart@gmail.com.

For the table, Masha is also preparing a black-and-white zine of JAM members' drawings, which will be handed out for free. If you are interested in participating, please email your work to princetoncomicmakers@gmail.com by Wednesday, March 13.

Finally! Last thing regarding the Zine Fest... The library is still looking for 2-3 volunteers for the zine-making area from 1:00 - 4:00. Any interested folks can contact Masha at her email above.

Reminders

None! We look forward to seeing you folks next time!
