Summary of the Last Meeting (3/19/2025)

🖋️In Short: Surprise manga workshop next meeting 3/26 courtesy of Kofi Bazzell-Smith. First anthology check-in is April 9. Middle Township Savor The Arts Festival deadline June 14. JetLAG application has been approved.

💥Manga Workshop with Kofi Bazzell-Smith

The Arts Council has kindly set up a hands-on workshop with visiting manga artist Kofi Bazzell-Smith this Wednesday, March 26. He will be giving a talk on his work and career in the Taplin Gallery (1st floor) at 6:30, after which he will join us for the workshop around 7:30. The talk is free to attend, just register first by clicking the link. He’s also a professional boxer!

🎸JetLAG Festival (Downsville, NY)

It’s an outdoor music festival/camping excursion in Fri-Sun, June 20-22 that also provides the opportunity to do outdoor installations. Masha’s application has been approved, and she will be setting up a goblin market-themed space to sell her wares. If you would like to participate in any form, let her know!

💻Mike’s design-focused demo

Mike does design work professionally and has kindly offered to demo professional art programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, etc. To make this demo more helpful, please let Mike or an admin know what you want to hear! We haven’t yet decided a date, but once we do, we will announce it so anyone who wants to attend can plan for it.

What: Colorful, joyful art, suitable for family audience. Pieces that tell a story, engage young minds, and inspire creativity. All mediums accepted.

Princeton Zine Fest

What: Represent the Princeton Comic Makers. Cannot sell goods, but can bring promotional items (eg. business cards, illustrations, zines, etc.) 
Event date/location: June; Hinds Plaza (front of Princeton Public Library)

🥚EGG-thology Reminders🥚

Sign ups have closed; first check-in will be April 9. Please keep in mind the content and format guidelines:

  • 1-10 pages

  • Black-and-white

  • A5 dimensions

  • PG-13

Additionally, make sure to plan your layout so that the comic starts on the right page. This way making 2-page spreads will be easier.

Our rough schedule:

Apr 9 - 1st check-in (scripts, thumbnails) ⬅️
May 14 - 2nd check-in (lines)
Jun 11 - 3rd check-in (SOFT DEADLINE, tones/shading/lettering)
Jun 25 - All final artwork due (HARD DEADLINE)
Jul 23 - Layout 1st check-in
Aug 13 - Final layout due
Aug 20 - Start of promos and pre-orders

The final note about the anthology: once it is published, you are free to acquire and sell copies for yourselves. However, copies sold this way will be set at the same price for everyone to prevent undercutting.

📸Princeton Art Council’s Insta-Takeover

At some point, we will be recording snippets of our meetings for the Art Council’s Instagram. We will not film you if you do not want to be filmed. Additionally, if anyone is interested in doing the filming, feel free to speak up!
