Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #35

Summary of the Last Two Meetings (10/16 and 10/23/2024)

Apologies for missing last week’s email! Our usual email mailer, Suyang, is currently abroad, so this is Masha taking over for her!

First, the past:

Jerry’s Art-a-rama’s “Artoberfest” arts and crafts fair event was on Sunday the 20th! Several of our members went and had a good time.

Also this past weekend was New York Comic Con! Several of our members attended that as well, and also had a good time.

On Monday the 21st, Jim Lee held a workshop at Princeton University, and we were able to get permission for a small group of our members to attend and meet the President of DC Comics in person!

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Luke, Alexei, Jim, Liam, Christina, and Vinny

Thanks to Angel from the Lewis Center of the Arts for making this happen! For a recap of what we’ve learned from the event, please check out our Jim Lee 2024 Workshop Notes–brought to you by Christina & Luke.

The future:

These past two weeks we’ve been talking about a few upcoming dates:

On Saturday, October 26, we are collaborating with Final Boss Comics in Lawrenceville for their Halloween pop-up event, the Final Boss Comics Fest! If you’ve talked to us about tabling there you should have already received an email about it. If you haven’t, email us again and we’ll pass on more detailed info. If you are not tabling, please stop by between 10 and 7, buy some comics, and say hello!

LOCATION: 10 Gordon Ave, Lawrence Township, NJ 08648

  • TIME OF EVENT: 10am to 7pm!

  • PARKING: There is a parking lot right next to Final Boss, which is also where we are vending!

    • In the event of high traffic, there are also two public parking lots located along Gordon Ave by the Gingered Peach and along Main Street, turning on Phillips Ave behind Vidalia Restaurant.

We are going to do a casual Halloween-themed meeting on Wednesday, October 30. Feel free to dress up and bring in snacks. Please no weapons or weapon look-alikes! Also make sure to list the ingredients for any homemade foods. We passed around a sign-up post-it last Wednesday, but if you missed it and still want to contribute, just reply to this email or sound off in Discord and we’ll add you. We will also end the meeting a little earlier than usual, just so there is enough time to clean up.

On Wednesday, November 6, we will be meeting at the Artworks Trenton building (19 Everett Alley, Trenton, NJ 08611-1737) instead of the Princeton Arts Council. Our meeting will still be at its usual time, 7:00 pm.

One more date to remember: Friday, November 8, from 5:00-7:00, is the opening celebration for the Princeton Sketchbook Club. You can see your sketchbooks, those by other artists, and the PCM group one as well!

Applications

If any of you are interested in flea markets generally, check out this website! It has listings for upcoming shows and fairs across New Jersey. Just double check that the theme of the show matches what you want to buy or sell.

Upcoming Shows

The Artworks Trenton “Sequential” exhibition, October 22 - November 23, is themed around comics and narrative-based art. Luke and Masha both have works featured in this show! The opening celebration is Friday, November 1 from 6:00-8:00. On the event page, you’ll see there are a number of comics-themed tie-in events such as a comics collage class and a book club.

Faraway Reminders

JetLAG Festival (Downsville, NY) is in about half a year, and includes music and camping, as well the opportunity to do installations! If you are looking for something fun to do in several seasons, consider checking this out!

Tomato reminder

We also still have tomato enamel pins, which are $10 for members. The proceeds from these pins go directly to our rent. If you want to help with rent but don’t necessarily want a pin, you can also just give Chris the same amount of money. No pressure, of course, and thank you to everyone who already contributed!

The usual links

For the new folks and anyone who was not receiving emails until recently, please click here to access the backlog of all our email blasts.

And as always, here is the Discord invite link. At first, you'll only see the "about-rules" channel; just enter the command written at the bottom of the guidelines to access to the rest of the server. If the link doesn't work, let us know and we'll send you another.
